What a well-built mobile app gives your business

A direct channel to customers

Orders, bookings, payments and messages through your own app instead of a marketplace or a phone queue.

Less admin for your team

Field and staff apps replace paper, texts and re-typing with forms that feed your systems directly.

Data you can act on

Analytics and crash reporting from launch show what people use, where they stop and what to build next.

An asset you own

Code, accounts, listings and data registered in your name, documented so any team can maintain it.

What is included in mobile app development

Each project is scoped to your business, but these are the building blocks we plan, build and support.

  • Discovery and scopeUsers, jobs, systems and the one outcome the first release must produce, written down and agreed.
  • UX and UI designUser flows, wireframes and a clickable prototype tested with real users before code.
  • iPhone and Android buildNative Swift and Kotlin, or Flutter and React Native for one codebase on both stores.
  • Back end and adminSecure APIs, databases and the admin panel your team uses to run the app.
  • IntegrationsPayments, booking, CRM, accounting, inventory, maps, SMS and email connected and monitored.
  • Testing and securityDevice, network, accessibility, security and store-guideline testing before every release.
  • Store launch and ASOListings, screenshots, keywords and review plan so the app is found and installed.
  • Support and updatesMonitoring, OS and dependency updates, compliance changes and planned improvements.

Mobile app development cost

Cost depends on the route, the number of screens and roles, integrations, compliance needs and how much already exists. We separate the one-time build, monthly support and third-party fees so you see the full picture before you commit.

Progressive web app

Quoted in writing

Ordering, booking and account apps that do not need deep hardware access

  • Installable web app for iPhone and Android
  • Admin panel
  • Payment or booking integration
  • Analytics and launch checklist

Cross-platform app

Customer and staff apps that need store presence, notifications and offline use

  • Flutter or React Native build for both stores
  • Back end and admin
  • Two or more integrations
  • Store listings and app store optimization

Native iOS and Android

Quoted in writing

Apps that depend on sensors, performance, heavy media or strict platform fit

  • Swift and Kotlin codebases

Third-party costs such as Apple and Google developer accounts, cloud hosting, SMS, maps and payment processing are billed by those providers and are separate from our work. Ask for a proposal and we will list every cost line for your app.

Mobile app developers

Mobile app developers who also bring the users

Executive summary: Mobile app development pays off when the first release is scoped around one job your customers or staff need done on a phone, built on the right route (native, cross-platform or a progressive web app), connected to the systems you already run, and launched with a plan to get it installed. Canada Create™ has built websites, apps and the marketing behind them since 2008 for businesses across Canada and the United States. This page explains how mobile app development works for a business owner, how we choose between iPhone, Android and cross-platform builds, what drives the cost, how long a build takes, who owns what at the end, and how to judge a mobile app development company before you sign.

What mobile app development covers

A mobile app is three pieces of software that have to work together: the app your users install from the App Store or Google Play, the back end that stores data and runs the logic, and the connections to everything else in your business, from payments and booking to your CRM and reporting. Mobile app development is the work of planning, designing, building, testing, launching and maintaining all three. Most projects we see fail at the connections or the launch, rarely at the screens, which is why the plan starts with your systems and your users rather than with a feature list.

Businesses come to us for four kinds of apps. Customer apps let people order, book, pay, track or manage an account without calling. Staff and field apps put job sheets, inspections, inventory and scheduling on the phones of people who are never at a desk. Product apps are the business itself, such as a marketplace, a subscription service or a tool sold to other companies. Companion apps extend a physical product, a membership or a location, for example a loyalty app for a chain of cafes or a resident app for a building. Each has a different economics, and the first conversation is about which one you are building and what a successful first year looks like.

Native, cross-platform or progressive web app

The route decides cost, speed and what the app can do, so it is chosen before design begins. A native iOS app written in Swift and a native Android app written in Kotlin give the best performance, the fullest access to cameras, sensors, Bluetooth and background services, and the smoothest fit with each platform’s design rules, at the cost of two codebases. Cross-platform frameworks such as Flutter and React Native ship one codebase to both stores and suit most business apps, where the screens are forms, lists, maps, payments and notifications rather than heavy graphics. A progressive web app runs in the browser, installs to the home screen, needs no store review and is the least expensive route for ordering, booking and account apps that do not need deep hardware access.

The choice is practical, not ideological. A clinic booking app, a contractor job app and a retail loyalty app are usually cross-platform or progressive web apps. A fitness app that reads sensors, a media app with heavy animation or an app that must work perfectly offline in the field usually earns a native build. We set out the trade-offs for your case in the proposal so the decision is yours and documented.

How the build runs

Discovery comes first: who uses the app, what they do today without it, what systems it must talk to, and what result would make the project worth it. From that we write a scope for the first release, which is deliberately smaller than the wish list, because an app that ships and gets used teaches more than one that is still being built. Mobile app design follows, with user flows, wireframes and a clickable prototype you can put in front of real customers or staff before a line of production code exists.

The build runs in short cycles. Every two weeks you get a working version on your own phone, connected to real data as early as possible, so integration problems surface in week three rather than week thirteen. Testing covers devices and screen sizes, slow networks, accessibility, security and the store guidelines that reject apps for reasons owners never expect. Launch includes the store listings, screenshots and the app store optimization that decides whether anyone finds the app once it is live.

What drives mobile app development cost

Every app is quoted in writing after discovery, because the same word covers a two-screen booking app and a marketplace with payments, chat and admin tools. The cost drivers are consistent: the number of platforms and whether the route is native or cross-platform; the number and complexity of screens and user roles; integrations with payment processors, booking systems, CRMs, accounting software and hardware; whether users need accounts, subscriptions or in-app purchases; offline use and data sync; security and compliance requirements in regulated industries; and how much of the design and content already exists. A proposal separates one-time build cost from monthly support and from third-party fees such as developer accounts, hosting, SMS and payment processing, so nothing is hidden inside a single number.

Two habits keep cost down without cutting corners. The first release is limited to the features that produce the outcome you defined, with everything else logged for a second version funded by results. And design is signed off before development, because a change on a wireframe costs minutes and the same change in tested code costs days.

How long mobile app development takes

A focused progressive web app or cross-platform app with a handful of screens and one or two integrations typically launches in eight to twelve weeks from the discovery call. Native apps for both platforms, apps with custom back ends, or apps in regulated fields with security reviews run longer, and the proposal gives a schedule with the review points where you approve before the next stage starts. Store review adds a few days for Google Play and often longer for Apple, so submission is planned into the last sprint rather than treated as the finish line.

Who owns the code, the accounts and the data

You do. The Apple Developer and Google Play accounts are created in your business’s name, the source code lives in a repository you control, the back end runs on cloud accounts you own, and the documentation is written so another team could take over if you ever wanted them to. Analytics and crash reporting are set up from launch so decisions about the second version come from how people actually use the app. Every piece of work carries the Canada Create™ signature by design.

Connecting the app to the rest of your business

An app that lives on its own creates double entry and stale data. We connect apps to the systems that already run your business: payment processors and point of sale, booking and scheduling tools, CRMs including CS+, accounting software, inventory and order management, email and SMS platforms, mapping and delivery services, and identity providers for staff sign-in. Where a system has no usable interface we build one, and where an integration is fragile we design the app to keep working when the other side is slow or down. Our web app development team builds the admin panels and dashboards that sit behind most mobile apps, and our AI app development work adds assistants, recommendations and automation where they earn their place.

Security, privacy and store compliance

Business apps handle personal information, payments and sometimes health or financial data, so security is built in rather than audited in at the end: encrypted storage and transport, authentication that matches the risk, least-privilege access to your back end, and dependency updates as part of maintenance. Apps that collect personal information from Canadians are designed around federal and provincial privacy law and the consent and disclosure rules the app stores enforce. Store rejections most often come from missing privacy details, sign-in rules, subscription wording and permissions the app asks for but does not visibly use, and we check each of these before submission.

Launch, app store optimization and growth

Building the app is half the job. Users have to find it, install it and keep it, so launch is planned with the same care as the build: store listings written around the searches people make, screenshots that show the outcome rather than the interface, onboarding that gets a new user to value in the first minute, notifications that respect the user, and a plan for reviews. As a marketing agency first, Canada Create™ runs the search, app store optimization, advertising and email that bring installs, and measures installs, activation and retention rather than downloads alone.

Maintenance and updates after launch

Every year Apple and Google change operating systems, review rules and hardware, and every month libraries release security updates. A maintained app keeps working through those changes; an abandoned one gets pulled from the store or stops opening on the newest phones. Support plans cover monitoring, crash fixes, operating system and dependency updates, store compliance changes and small improvements, with larger features scoped separately. The plan is quoted with the build so the ongoing cost is known before you commit.

How to choose a mobile app development company

Ask to see live apps the company has built and use them on your own phone. Ask who does the work, whether the developers are senior, and whether the same team handles design, back end and integrations. Ask what happens at launch and who markets the app. Ask how the code, accounts and data are owned. Ask how cost is broken down between build, support and third parties, and how changes during the project are handled. A company that answers those questions in writing, before you sign, is one you can plan around.

Canada Create has been an excellent marketing and branding partner for our dental practice. Their understanding of local SEO, digital marketing, social media, content creation, Google visibility, and AI optimization really stood out to us. A dental practice depends heavily on trust, reputation, patient experience, and being discoverable when someone is searching for a dentist. Canada Create understands how to bring those pieces together and communicate the quality of a practice naturally. I would highly recommend Canada Create to dentists, dental clinics, and other healthcare professionals looking to improve their online presence, local search visibility, branding, and organic growth.

I had a great experience working with this business. They helped me build my tutoring website from scratch and guided me through the entire process. I knew nothing about how the process worked, but they were professional, patient, and incredibly helpful. They took the time to understand what I wanted, handled the setup and design, and made sure everything worked properly. I’m very happy with the final result and would definitely recommend them to anyone who needs help creating a professional website or getting their business online.

We hired Canada Create to help strengthen the online marketing for Marvel Car Clinic and the results have been very positive. They developed our new website and managed the Google Ads strategy around our main automotive services including paint protection film (PPF), vehicle wraps and ceramic coating. The biggest improvement for me has been the overall quality of our online presence. Customers can now clearly see what we offer, the website is much more professional and our advertising is bringing relevant people directly to the services they are searching for. Their team understands conversion and lead generation, not just design. Everything from the website layout to the advertising campaigns feels like it was created with the goal of getting more customers. Great communication, professional work and strong results. I would recommend Canada Create to any Toronto or GTA business looking for Google Ads management, website development and digital marketing.

We’ve had a great experience working with Canada Create on the digital marketing for Marvel Car Clinic. They completely improved our online presence with a professionally designed new website and a much stronger Google Ads strategy. Our business specializes in car wraps, paint protection film (PPF), ceramic coating and automotive protection services, so attracting the right type of customer is extremely important. The Canada Create team took the time to understand our services, our target market and what actually makes a customer contact us. Since launching the new website and Google Ads campaigns, we’ve seen a noticeable improvement in the quality of inquiries coming in. The website looks professional, is easy to navigate and presents our car wrap, PPF and ceramic coating services much better than before. What we appreciate most is that they focus on results instead of simply running ads. Communication has been great, changes are handled quickly and the team is always looking for ways to improve the campaigns. If you’re looking for a digital marketing agency in Toronto for Google Ads, website design and lead generation, I would definitely recommend Canada Create.

Mobile app development questions

How much does it cost to have a mobile app developed?

It depends on the route, the number of screens and user roles, the integrations and any compliance requirements. A progressive web app for ordering or booking costs far less than native iPhone and Android apps with a custom back end. Budget separately for the build, monthly support and third-party fees such as developer accounts and payment processing. We quote in writing after a short discovery call.

Should I build a native app or a cross-platform app?

Most business apps, where the screens are forms, lists, maps, payments and notifications, suit a cross-platform build in Flutter or React Native, which ships one codebase to both stores. Native Swift and Kotlin builds earn their extra cost when the app depends on sensors, performance, heavy media or offline work in the field.

How long does mobile app development take?

A focused app with a handful of screens and one or two integrations typically launches in eight to twelve weeks from discovery. Native builds for both platforms, custom back ends and regulated-industry reviews take longer, and the proposal shows the schedule with approval points.

Do I need both an iPhone and an Android app?

In Canada the split between iPhone and Android users is close enough that most customer apps need both. A staff app can start on the devices your team actually carries. A progressive web app covers both from one build when store presence is not required.

Who owns the app when it is finished?

You do. The developer accounts, source code, cloud accounts, store listings and data are created in your business's name, and the documentation is written so another team could maintain the app.

Can an app connect to my existing software?

Yes. We connect apps to payment processors, point of sale, booking systems, CRMs including CS+, accounting, inventory, email, SMS and mapping services, and build interfaces where a system has none.

What happens after the app launches?

Apple and Google change operating systems and rules every year, so a support plan covers monitoring, crash fixes, updates, compliance changes and small improvements. We also run the app store optimization and marketing that bring installs.

Can you fix or finish an app another company started?

Often, yes. We review the code, accounts and back end first and tell you honestly whether it is faster to continue or rebuild, then quote the work in writing.

Do you build apps for regulated industries?

Yes, including healthcare, finance, legal and education, with privacy, consent and security requirements designed in from the start. Regulatory compliance for the business itself stays with the business owner.

Let's talk
You don't want to miss this

An app that nobody uses costs more than an app that was never built

Most failed apps are not failed code. They were built without a clear job, launched without a plan to reach users and left without updates. We scope the first release around one measurable outcome, connect the app to your existing systems and market it after launch, so the investment keeps paying.
