How we run Amazon PPC that pays
Amazon PPC management that answers to profit
Amazon PPC management decides whether your products sit on the first page of Amazon search or disappear behind competitors who bid smarter. Canada Create™ is an Amazon advertising agency that runs Amazon ads management for brands and sellers on Amazon.ca and Amazon.com: Sponsored Products, Sponsored Brands, Sponsored Display, video and the listing work that makes every click worth paying for. We plan campaigns around your margins, your stock and your total sales, so advertising grows the business instead of only growing the ad bill.
Our team works from our office at 126 Willowdale Ave., Suite #3, Toronto, beside the people who run our Google Ads, SEO, ecommerce and design work. That matters because Amazon rarely works on its own. The same brand usually sells through its own website, runs Google Shopping campaigns and needs product images that convert everywhere. When one team plans all of it, Amazon, Google and your store stop competing for credit and start working toward the same numbers. We serve sellers across Canada and the United States, and we have done digital advertising since 2008.
This page explains how Amazon PPC works, what an Amazon PPC management service should include, the strategies we use, how agencies charge and how to choose one. If you already know what you need, use the form on this page. You will get a proposal in one business day.
What is Amazon PPC?
Amazon PPC (pay per click) is Amazon’s advertising system, now called Amazon Ads. Sellers and vendors pay only when a shopper clicks an ad. Ads appear in Amazon search results, on product detail pages, on the Amazon home page and, for some formats, on sites and apps outside Amazon. Because shoppers on Amazon are usually ready to buy, a well run PPC program can turn clicks into sales faster than most other paid channels.
How does PPC work on Amazon?
Every ad placement is sold through an auction. When a shopper searches, Amazon looks at all the advertisers bidding on that search, then weighs each bid against how relevant the product is and how likely the shopper is to buy it. Relevance comes mostly from your listing: the title, bullet points, description, backend search terms, images, reviews, price and whether the item is in stock. The winning advertiser pays a cost per click that is set by the auction, which is often lower than the maximum bid.
This is why listing quality and advertising must be managed together. A strong listing wins placements at lower cost and converts more of the clicks it gets. A weak listing forces you to bid higher for the same position and still loses the sale. Good Amazon PPC management starts with the product page, then moves to bids.
Sponsored Products
Sponsored Products promote individual listings in search results and on product pages. They are the foundation of almost every Amazon advertising program and usually produce the most direct sales. Campaigns can target keywords, specific competing products or whole categories. They can run on automatic targeting, where Amazon matches your ad to searches it thinks are relevant, or manual targeting, where we choose each keyword and product target and set its bid.
Sponsored Brands
Sponsored Brands show your logo, a custom headline and several products, or a short video, at the top of search results and in other prominent spots. They build brand recognition and send shoppers to your Amazon Store or a group of products. Sponsored Brands require enrolment in Amazon Brand Registry.
Sponsored Display
Sponsored Display ads reach shoppers on and off Amazon based on what they have viewed or bought. They are the main tool for retargeting people who looked at your product and left without buying, and for appearing on competitors’ product pages and in related categories.

Amazon DSP
Amazon’s demand side platform buys display and video ads across Amazon sites, Fire TV, Twitch and partner websites, using Amazon’s shopping signals for targeting. DSP usually needs a larger budget and suits brands that already have steady sales on Amazon and want to reach new audiences or bring back past buyers.
Amazon Stores
A Store is a free, multi page brand destination on Amazon. A well designed Store gives Sponsored Brands ads a better landing place than a single listing and keeps shoppers browsing your range instead of clicking away to a competitor.
Why Amazon ads management goes wrong for many sellers
Most sellers who come to us are not short of effort. They are short of time and structure. These are the problems we see most often when we review an account.
Wasted ad spend
Automatic campaigns and broad match keywords find new searches, but without regular search term reviews and negative keywords they keep paying for clicks that never convert. Spend leaks slowly, so it is easy to miss until the monthly total arrives.
Poor keyword targeting
Many accounts chase the biggest generic keywords, where the competition is heaviest and the shopper intent is vague. Long tail searches, competitor product targets and category targets are left untested, even though they often convert better at a lower cost.
Budget that runs out at the wrong time
When daily budgets are set without looking at performance, the best campaigns run dry by midday while weaker ones keep spending. Budget should follow return, and it should be checked often.
Irregular campaign monitoring
Search behaviour, competitor prices and stock levels change every week. Accounts that are checked once a month drift into waste, miss out of stock warnings and keep advertising products that can no longer win the sale.
Inconsistent bidding
Bids changed on instinct, or left at the same level for months, produce unpredictable results. Bids should be set from conversion data, target profitability and placement performance, then adjusted on a steady schedule.
Our Amazon PPC management services
We manage the full program, from the listing that ads depend on to the report that shows whether you made money.
Account and listing audit
Before any new spend, we review your Seller Central or Vendor Central account, your listings and your current campaigns. We look at titles, bullets, images, reviews, pricing, stock levels, Buy Box ownership, search term reports and campaign structure, then give you a written list of what to fix and what to scale. Advertising a listing that does not convert only buys expensive clicks.
Keyword and product target research
We research the terms shoppers use to find products like yours, using Amazon’s search term reports, Brand Analytics where available and keyword research tools. Terms are grouped by intent: your brand, generic product terms, competitor terms and long tail searches. We also map competing products and categories worth targeting. The research feeds both the ads and the listing copy.

Listing optimization
We rewrite titles, bullet points, descriptions and backend search terms so listings are relevant for the searches you want to win and persuasive to the shopper reading them. For brand registered sellers, we design A+ Content with comparison charts and lifestyle images, and we plan the Amazon Store. Our designers work from your product photography, and our photography team can shoot new images when the current ones hold you back.
Campaign structure
We build campaigns in a clear structure that separates discovery from performance. Automatic campaigns find new search terms. Manual exact match campaigns scale the terms that convert. Brand, competitor and category campaigns are kept apart so each can be budgeted and judged on its own. Negative keywords block searches that do not sell, and duplicate targeting is removed so your own campaigns do not bid against each other.
Bid and budget management
Bids are set by keyword, product target and placement based on conversion data and the profit target agreed for each product. We choose between Amazon’s bidding strategies (fixed bids, dynamic bids down only, and dynamic bids up and down) campaign by campaign, and use placement adjustments where top of search or product page positions earn their extra cost. Budgets are moved toward the products and terms with the best return.
Sponsored Brands and video creative
Our designers produce Sponsored Brands headlines and images, custom creative and short product videos that meet Amazon’s specifications. Video in search results often catches attention that static ads miss, especially in crowded categories.

Reporting you can act on
Monthly reports show ad spend, ad sales, advertising cost of sales (ACoS), return on ad spend, total sales and the share of sales that came from ads. We explain in plain language what changed and what we will do next. You keep ownership of your Amazon account and all of its data.
Amazon PPC strategies we use
There is no single trick that makes Amazon advertising profitable. It is a set of habits applied every week. These are the core strategies behind our Amazon PPC management.
Run automatic and manual campaigns together
Automatic campaigns are research tools. They show which searches Amazon connects to your product. Manual campaigns are where you scale with control. We run both, move proven search terms from automatic into manual exact match campaigns, and add those terms as negatives in the automatic campaign so the two do not compete.
Adjust bids from performance data
Every bid change should have a reason in the data: conversion rate, cost per click, placement results and the product’s profit target. We raise bids where terms sell profitably and lower or pause them where they do not, on a regular schedule instead of reacting to a single bad day.
Segment campaigns by product and category
Grouping products with different prices and margins in one campaign hides what is working. We segment campaigns by product line or category so each group gets its own budget, bids and targets, and so you can see which parts of your catalogue carry the account.
Research more long tail keywords
Long tail searches are longer, more specific phrases. They usually cost less per click and show clearer buying intent. New listings in particular can win on long tail terms long before they can compete for broad ones.
Use dynamic bidding with care
Amazon’s dynamic bidding raises or lowers bids in real time based on the chance of a sale. It can help mature campaigns with good conversion history. On new or untested campaigns it can overspend, so we introduce it once there is enough data to trust it.
Harvest search terms and add negatives
Search term reports show the exact words shoppers typed before they clicked. We review them weekly, add converting searches as new targets and block irrelevant ones. This single habit is often the biggest difference between a profitable account and an expensive one.
Protect the top of the funnel and the bottom
Sponsored Brands and video build awareness, Sponsored Products capture shoppers ready to buy, and Sponsored Display brings back people who looked and left. Budget is split across these stages according to your goals, so you are not paying for awareness you cannot convert or capturing only the shoppers who would have found you anyway.
Mapping Amazon ads to the shopper journey
Shoppers rarely search once and buy. They browse, compare, leave, see a product again and return. Amazon advertising works best when each ad type is matched to a stage of that journey.
- Discovery: Sponsored Brands, Sponsored Brands video and DSP put your brand in front of shoppers exploring a category.
- Consideration: Sponsored Products on category and competitor terms, plus product targeting on similar items, put your listing beside the alternatives shoppers are comparing.
- Conversion: Sponsored Products on high intent keywords and your own brand terms capture shoppers who are ready to buy.
- Return and repeat: Sponsored Display and DSP audiences bring back shoppers who viewed your product and past buyers of consumable items.
We start with the stages closest to a sale, prove they are profitable, then add the earlier stages as the account matures.
The numbers that matter on Amazon
Amazon reports many metrics. A few decide whether advertising is actually paying off.
ACoS and ROAS
Advertising cost of sales is ad spend divided by ad attributed sales. Return on ad spend is the inverse. The right ACoS depends on your margin: a product with a healthy margin can afford a higher ACoS than one with a thin margin. We work out a break even ACoS for each product with you and set targets from there, instead of chasing a number that suits someone else’s business.
TACoS
Total advertising cost of sales compares ad spend with all sales, including organic sales. It shows whether advertising is helping your products rank and sell on their own over time. A falling TACoS while total sales grow usually means ads are building organic momentum.
Conversion rate and organic rank
Amazon rewards listings that sell. Ads that drive sales for a keyword can lift a product’s organic rank for that keyword, which reduces how much you need to spend later. We track organic rank for priority keywords alongside ad metrics.
Profit before sales volume
Selling more at a loss is not growth. We look at ad spend together with product costs, Amazon fees and fulfilment costs where you share them, so decisions are made on profit.

Specialists who use automation, and check it
Amazon offers rules, recommendations and automated bidding, and many software tools promise to run campaigns on autopilot. Automation is useful for routine bid changes and alerts. It does not know your margins, your stock position, your launch plans or what a competitor just changed on their listing. Our Amazon ads management pairs tools with people: a specialist reviews search terms, bids, placements and listings, and makes the decisions automation cannot. You always know who is working on your account and how to reach them.
Amazon marketing for sellers in Canada
Amazon.ca is a separate marketplace from Amazon.com, with its own search behaviour, competition and costs. Many Canadian sellers also sell in the United States, and some American brands expand into Canada. Each marketplace needs its own campaigns, keyword research and budgets, because what works on Amazon.com does not always work on Amazon.ca.
Canadian sellers also deal with practical details that affect advertising: bilingual labelling and packaging rules for many products sold in Canada, French listing content expected by some shoppers, fulfilment through Fulfilment by Amazon or your own warehouse, and customs and duties when stock crosses the border. We plan campaigns around those realities so ads do not drive traffic to products that are out of stock or priced out of the market.
Seller Central and Vendor Central
Third party sellers use Seller Central and control their own pricing and listings. Vendors sell wholesale to Amazon through Vendor Central, and Amazon sets the retail price. Advertising works in both, but the levers are different. We work with either model and explain clearly where the limits are.
Brand Registry
If you own a registered or pending trademark, Amazon Brand Registry gives you access to Sponsored Brands, A+ Content, Stores, Brand Analytics and better protection against copycat listings. For most brands it is worth doing early. We can guide you through the Amazon side of the process; the trademark filing itself should be handled by a trademark agent or lawyer.
How an Amazon ads management engagement runs
1. Audit
We review your account, listings, campaigns, search term reports and margins, then send a written summary of what to fix and what to scale.
2. Targets
We agree break even and target ACoS by product, the monthly ad budget and the products to prioritize.
3. Listing fixes
Titles, bullets, images and A+ Content are improved on priority products before ad spend goes up.
4. Campaign rebuild
Campaigns are restructured or built from scratch, with negatives, placements, bidding strategies and budgets set.
5. Optimize
We review search terms and bids every week, harvest converting terms into exact match campaigns and cut waste.
6. Report and expand
Monthly reports track profitability. When the core campaigns are efficient, we expand into Sponsored Brands video, Sponsored Display, new products or a new marketplace.

Launching a new product with Amazon PPC
New listings start with no sales history, no reviews and no organic rank. Advertising is the fastest way to get the first sales that start the cycle, but a launch needs a plan, not a large budget pointed at broad keywords.
Before launch
We complete the listing first: a keyword rich title and bullets, a full image set, A+ Content where available and a competitive price. We check that enough stock is available to support the launch, because running out in the first weeks undoes the work.
Reviews within Amazon’s rules
Reviews strongly influence conversion. Amazon has strict rules on how sellers may ask for them, and incentivized or manipulated reviews can lead to suspension. We use only approved methods, such as Amazon’s Request a Review feature and, where eligible, the Amazon Vine program. We never offer anything in exchange for a review.
Launch campaigns
Launch campaigns focus on highly relevant long tail keywords where a new listing can compete, plus product targeting on closely related items. As sales and reviews build, we widen targeting to more competitive terms. The launch has a budget and an end point agreed in advance.
After launch
Once the product has a steady sales history, we move from launch bidding to profit focused bidding and fold the product into your main campaign structure.
Protecting your brand on Amazon
Advertising brings shoppers to your listings, but competitors and other sellers can take the sale once they arrive. Brand protection keeps advertising profitable.
Defending your brand searches
Competitors often bid on your brand name so their products appear when shoppers search for you. Brand defence campaigns keep your own products at the top of those results and on your own product pages. We report them separately so they do not hide the true performance of your non brand campaigns.
Watching the Buy Box
If other sellers offer your product, the seller who wins the Buy Box gets most of the sales, including sales from your ads. We monitor Buy Box ownership and pause advertising on listings where you are not winning it, so you are not paying to send shoppers to someone else.
Listing accuracy
Other sellers can sometimes suggest changes to shared listings. Brand Registry gives brand owners more control over titles, images and details. We check priority listings regularly and flag changes you did not make.
Amazon and your other sales channels
Most brands that sell on Amazon also sell through their own website, and the two channels affect each other. Shoppers often see a product on Amazon, then search the brand on Google, and some buy from the brand’s own store where the margin is higher. Others see a Google or social ad and go to Amazon to buy because they trust its delivery and returns.
Because Canada Create™ also handles ecommerce website design, Google Ads management and SEO, we can plan Amazon as part of the whole picture: consistent pricing and messaging, product content reused across channels, and reporting that shows total growth instead of each channel claiming the same sale. Where it makes sense, we send traffic from Google or social ads to your Amazon listings and measure it with Amazon Attribution. Enquiries and follow ups from your own site are tracked in CS+, our CRM, so nothing falls between channels.

Using Amazon search data beyond Amazon
Amazon search term reports show the exact words shoppers typed before they bought. That information guides product names and descriptions on your website, keywords in Google Shopping and search campaigns, the questions your product pages should answer and even decisions about new product variations.
Seasonality and promotions
Amazon demand rises and falls with the calendar. Prime Day, Black Friday, Cyber Monday, Boxing Day and back to school bring more traffic and more competition. We plan budgets, bids, deals and coupons around these events, prepare stock and creative early, and pull back when competition makes clicks unprofitable.
Is PPC better than SEO?
Neither is better on its own. PPC buys visibility now and stops when the budget stops. SEO earns visibility that builds over time and keeps working between campaigns. On Amazon the two are closely linked: listing optimization is Amazon SEO, and sales from ads feed the organic rank that SEO depends on. Most sellers need both, with PPC doing more of the work at launch and organic rank carrying more of the load as the product matures.
The same logic applies to your own website on Google. Paid search brings shoppers in quickly, while SEO builds a steady source of visitors you do not pay for per click. Our SEO programs start from CAD 1,500/month, and we will tell you honestly whether paid, organic or a mix makes most sense for your catalogue.
Is SEO dead now with AI?
No. AI answers in Google and AI shopping assistants are changing how people search, but they still draw on web pages, product data and listings that are well structured, accurate and trusted. The work shifts toward clear product information, strong reviews, helpful content and consistent data across Amazon, your website and other listings. Amazon’s own search, including its AI shopping features, still depends on the listing content and sales signals that Amazon SEO and PPC build.
Which platform is most commonly used for PPC?
Google Ads is the most widely used PPC platform overall, covering Google search, Shopping, YouTube and partner sites. For products, Amazon Ads is often where shoppers are closest to buying, because they are searching inside a store. Microsoft Advertising, Meta and other retail media networks also sell ads on a cost per click or impression basis. For most ecommerce brands, the core pairing is Amazon Ads for marketplace sales and Google Ads for their own store.
What Amazon PPC management costs
There are always two separate costs. Your ad spend is paid directly to Amazon from your own account, together with Amazon’s selling and fulfilment fees; those are your own costs and never pass through us. Our management fee covers strategy, listing work, campaign management, creative and reporting. It is quoted in writing before we start.
How much does an Amazon PPC agency typically charge?
Agencies use a few common fee models: a flat monthly fee, a percentage of ad spend, a percentage of ad sales, or a base fee plus a variable part. Each has trade offs. A fee tied to ad spend can reward spending more whether or not it is profitable, while a flat fee keeps the incentive on results. We quote a clear monthly fee in writing based on the work your account needs. The main cost drivers are:
- Catalogue size: the number of products, variations and brands to manage.
- Marketplaces: Amazon.ca, Amazon.com or both.
- Ad types: Sponsored Products only, or Sponsored Brands, Display, video and DSP as well.
- Listing work: how much copy, A+ Content, Store design and photography are needed.
- Launches: new products need more attention in their first months.
- Account condition: a messy account with years of overlapping campaigns takes more work to rebuild than a clean one.
Agency or an in-house Amazon PPC manager?
Sellers often ask about the salary range for an Amazon PPC manager when weighing an in-house hire. Pay varies widely with experience, location and whether the role also covers listings, creative and reporting. Beyond salary, an in-house hire brings software subscriptions, training, holiday cover and the risk of losing everything the person knows when they leave. An agency gives you a team with shared tools and backup, often at a cost that compares well with a single full time hire. For larger brands, the best answer is sometimes both: an in-house owner of the Amazon channel working with a specialist agency.
We will tell you plainly if Amazon advertising is unlikely to be profitable for a product, for example when margins are too thin to cover ad spend and Amazon fees, and what would need to change first.
How to choose an Amazon advertising agency
Before hiring anyone to manage your Amazon ads, ask these questions:
- How will you measure success? Look for profit, TACoS and total sales, not ad sales alone.
- Will you work on the listings? Ads and listings cannot be separated.
- Who owns the account and data? You should, always.
- How often will you optimize? Weekly search term and bid reviews are the minimum for an active account.
- How is the fee calculated? Make sure the fee model does not reward spending more for its own sake.
- Who will actually work on my account? Know the people, not only the sales contact.
Common Amazon advertising mistakes
- Advertising weak listings. Poor images, thin bullet points and few reviews waste every click.
- Running only automatic campaigns. Without manual campaigns and negatives, automatic targeting keeps spending on terms that do not convert.
- No negative keywords. Irrelevant searches can quietly use a large share of the budget.
- Ignoring margins. A campaign that looks good on ad sales can lose money once fees and product costs are counted.
- Running out of stock. Stockouts stop sales, waste the ranking momentum ads have built and can take weeks to recover from.
- Mixing brand and non brand results. Brand campaigns are cheap and efficient, and blending them in flatters the whole account.
- Setting and forgetting. Campaigns left alone for months drift into waste.
- Chasing rank at any cost. Aggressive launch bidding can work, but only with a budget and an end date agreed in advance.
Product categories where Amazon ads fit well
Amazon advertising suits brands with a clear product, healthy margins and reliable supply.
Consumer brands and private label
Brands that own their products and trademarks can use Brand Registry, A+ Content, Stores and Sponsored Brands to build a recognizable presence.
Home, kitchen and garden
Crowded categories where strong images, clear comparison content and disciplined bidding separate profitable sellers from the rest.
Health, beauty and personal care
Categories with extra listing and advertising rules, where claims must be written carefully and within Amazon’s and Health Canada’s requirements.
Manufacturers and distributors
Canadian manufacturers adding Amazon as a sales channel, often alongside their own website and wholesale business.

Amazon PPC management: common questions
What is Amazon PPC management?
It is the ongoing work of running Amazon Ads: keyword and product target research, campaign structure, bids, budgets, negative keywords, creative, listing improvements and reporting, all aimed at profitable sales.
What types of Amazon ads do you manage?
Sponsored Products, Sponsored Brands including video, Sponsored Display and, for larger brands, Amazon DSP, plus Amazon Stores and A+ Content.
How much does an Amazon PPC agency charge?
Agencies use flat monthly fees, a share of ad spend or sales, or a mix. We quote a clear monthly management fee in writing based on catalogue size, marketplaces, ad types and listing work. Ad spend is paid directly to Amazon.
Should I hire an agency or an in-house Amazon PPC manager?
An in-house hire brings salary, tools, training and cover. An agency gives you a team with shared tools and backup. Larger brands often combine an in-house channel owner with an agency.
Is PPC better than SEO on Amazon?
They work together. Listing optimization is Amazon SEO, and ad sales feed organic rank. PPC does more at launch, and organic rank carries more as a product matures.
What is a good ACoS?
It depends on your margin. We calculate a break even ACoS for each product and set targets that keep advertising profitable.
Do you work with Amazon.ca and Amazon.com?
Yes. Each marketplace gets its own keyword research, campaigns and budgets.
Do you work on our listings too?
Yes. Titles, bullets, backend terms, A+ Content and Store design are part of the program, because ads depend on listing quality.
How do you handle reviews?
Only with Amazon approved methods such as Request a Review and, where eligible, Amazon Vine. We never offer incentives for reviews.
Who owns the account?
You own the account and all its data, ad spend is paid directly to Amazon.
