Best SEO Companies in Canada for 2026

Searches for an SEO company in Canada usually start with a list. This one is short on purpose: four agencies, each checked against the same public record, with a plain account of what each one does and who it suits. Canada Create, the publisher of this guide, is listed first. The other three are agencies based in Vancouver and Ottawa, chosen because their public reviews are strong, their websites describe real SEO services, and nothing in their record raised a warning when we checked. We last checked every fact about the four agencies on November 4, 2026, and the update log at the end of this guide lists each change.
A list only gets you to a shortlist. The second half of this guide covers what decides the hire: what an SEO company should be able to show you, the questions that separate agencies quickly, the warning signs that sound reassuring in a meeting, and what a healthy first six months looks like. Use both halves together and you can judge any agency in Canada, including the ones on this page.

How we chose these SEO companies
Every agency on the list had to meet the same five tests. They are written here so you can apply them to any SEO company that is not on the list.
- A strong, well-supported public rating. A Google Business Profile rating of 4.7 or higher from at least 50 reviews, last read on November 4, 2026. Thin profiles with a handful of reviews were left out, however high the score.
- No pattern of serious complaints. We read the newest reviews for each agency and looked for repeated complaints about billing, missed work or broken communication. One unhappy client in a long record is normal; a cluster is not.
- A clean Better Business Bureau record where one exists. Agencies with a C rating or lower were excluded.
- SEO as a real service. The agency’s own website had to describe SEO work it does itself, with a physical office address in its city.
- Outside Toronto, in Vancouver or Ottawa. Canada Create is a Toronto agency and publishes this guide, so the other places went to strongly rated agencies in two other large Canadian markets. That keeps the list useful for readers across the country and avoids ranking our direct Toronto neighbours.
Two things were deliberately not used: agency size and how loudly an agency describes itself. Neither predicts whether your pages will rank. The rating figures below are public numbers as they stood on the date we checked; they move every week, so open each profile before you decide.
The four SEO companies
1. Canada Create (Toronto)
Canada Create has worked on search for Toronto and Canadian businesses since 2008 from its office at 126 Willowdale Ave., Suite 3, in Toronto. SEO is run as one job with the things that usually sit around it: local SEO and the Google Business Profile, technical fixes, content, links, AI search optimization for Google’s AI Overviews and AI Mode, ChatGPT and Perplexity, and, when it helps, Google Ads and the website itself. Work is written for Canadian readers in Canadian English, and the team also works in French.
Every engagement starts with discovery and a written custom proposal with fees quoted in writing. Search Console, Analytics, the Google Business Profile and the website stay in the client’s name, and monthly reporting leads with the searches, pages and enquiries that matter rather than with traffic graphs. Canada Create is a BBB Accredited Business with an A+ rating and zero complaints, holds Google Partner and Shopify Partner status, and shows its 2021 Clutch and DesignRush badges. You can read its reviews on its Google profile and see delivered work in the portfolio.
- Office: 126 Willowdale Ave., Suite 3, Toronto, ON
- In business since: 2008
- SEO-related services: SEO in Toronto, local SEO, AI search, SEO consulting, law firm SEO, dental SEO, ecommerce SEO
- Public record: BBB Accredited, A+ rating, zero complaints
- Often a fit for: Businesses in Toronto and across Canada that want search, ads and the website handled by one accountable team
2. Stigan Media (Vancouver)
Stigan Media is a web design and digital marketing agency in Gastown, founded by partners Sandro and Adwin, and its site says it has served Vancouver businesses since 2009. SEO sits next to web design, PPC management, conversion tracking and web development, so the same team can fix a slow or badly structured site and then work on rankings. Its portfolio leans toward local service businesses, retail and professional firms in British Columbia.
The appeal for a small or mid-sized business is that site structure and SEO are planned together, which matters when the website itself is the problem. Ask to see live rankings for a client in your industry, and ask who on the team handles content.
- Office: 55 Water St., Suite 308, Vancouver, BC
- SEO-related services: SEO, local SEO, web design and development, PPC, conversion tracking
- Public record: 4.9 from 62 Google reviews and a BBB A+ rating, checked November 4, 2026
- Often a fit for: BC businesses that need a rebuild and SEO at the same time
3. Salt Water Digital Marketing (Vancouver)
Salt Water Digital is a Vancouver agency that builds its pitch around small business owners who have been let down by a previous agency. Its site names a dedicated team, including an SEO lead with more than ten years in local and organic search and a PPC lead, and offers SEO, Google Ads and web design for businesses in Vancouver, elsewhere in Canada and the United States.
Its Google profile had 145 reviews averaging 5.0 when we checked, spread steadily across the past year rather than bunched into a few days, which is the pattern you want to see. It suits owner-run businesses that want a named person on their SEO. As with any agency, ask how local and organic work are split and what the first ninety days include.
- Office: 9 W Broadway, Suite C, Vancouver, BC
- SEO-related services: Local SEO, organic SEO, Google Ads, web design
- Public record: 5.0 from 145 Google reviews and a BBB A+ rating, checked November 4, 2026
- Often a fit for: Small businesses that want a named SEO lead and local search focus
4. Pekan Designs (Ottawa)
Pekan Designs is an Ottawa web design and digital marketing agency on Bank Street that offers SEO and local SEO with web design, PPC, social media and branding, on WordPress and Shopify. Its site cites more than ten years of experience and over 340 projects. For an Ottawa business that also needs a logo refresh or a new site, having design and search in one place keeps the brief simple.
Its 75 Google reviews averaged 4.9 when we checked, and its BBB profile, listed under Nepean, carries an A+ rating. Ask to see SEO results separately from design work, since the portfolio is design-heavy, and ask how local search for the Ottawa region is handled.
- Office: 2420 Bank St., Suite 108, Ottawa, ON
- SEO-related services: SEO, local SEO, web design, PPC, social media, branding
- Public record: 4.9 from 75 Google reviews and a BBB A+ rating, checked November 4, 2026
- Often a fit for: Ottawa businesses that want SEO with design and branding
The four SEO companies compared

| Stigan Media | Vancouver | Since 2009 (per its site) | SEO, web design, PPC | 4.9 from 62 Google reviews; BBB A+ |
| Salt Water Digital Marketing | Vancouver | Not stated | Local and organic SEO, Google Ads, web | 5.0 from 145 Google reviews; BBB A+ |

Ratings are shown for the other three agencies as they appeared on their public profiles on the date above. Canada Create’s reviews are live on its Google profile.
How to read an SEO company’s reviews
A rating is a starting point. Open the profile and read the twenty newest reviews. Look for reviews that name the work (rankings for a service, more calls from the map, a site migration that kept its traffic) rather than general praise. Check that the reviews are spread across months rather than arriving in one burst, read the low ratings to see whether the complaints share a theme, and read how the agency replied. A calm, specific reply to a bad review tells you more about how an agency handles problems than any case study. Then check the Better Business Bureau and any industry directory where the agency is listed, and ask for one current client you can call.
What an SEO company does in 2026
An SEO company improves how often your business appears when people search for what you sell, and how often those searches turn into calls, bookings or orders. In practice that is five kinds of work, and a good proposal names all five for your site.
- Technical health. Crawling and indexing, page speed, mobile layout, redirects, structured data and the faults that stop good pages from ranking.
- Pages for real searches. A map of the searches that bring customers, matched to pages that answer them, with missing pages written and weak ones rewritten.
- Local visibility. The Google Business Profile, reviews, consistent business details across directories and location pages for the places you serve.
- Authority. Links and mentions from real sites: industry associations, local press, partners, suppliers and content people want to cite.
- AI answers. Google’s AI Overviews and AI Mode, ChatGPT, Perplexity and Copilot now answer many questions directly. They lean on pages that already rank and state facts clearly, so SEO and AI search are one job with a few extra checks.
If a proposal covers only one of these, it is a specialist service. That can be the right choice, but you should know which parts are missing and who will handle them.
How to choose an SEO company: start with the job
Before you open a single proposal, write down what search needs to do for the business. A dental practice in North York wants new-patient calls from a ten-kilometre radius. A B2B software company wants demo requests from across Canada and the United States. A restaurant group wants reservations from people who are already nearby. Each of those is a different SEO job with a different mix of local search, content, technical work and links, and an agency that is excellent at one may be mediocre at another.
Write three things on one page: the services or products that make money, the places you can serve, and the number that tells you search is working (calls, booked appointments, quote requests, orders). Share that page with every agency you talk to. The ones who build their proposal around it are the ones to keep talking to.

What an SEO company should be able to show you
Ask every candidate for the same four things and compare the answers side by side.
Rankings they earned for a business like yours
Not a logo wall. Ask for a live example: a client in a comparable industry, the searches that matter to that client, and where the client appears today. A good agency can open Google in front of you and show the result, then explain what they did to get there and how long it took. Be cautious if every example is the agency’s own website.
A plan that names your pages
A real SEO plan talks about your website, not SEO in general. It should name the pages that will target your money searches, the pages that are missing, the technical problems found in a first look, and the order of work. If the plan could be sent to any company by changing the logo, it was.
Who does the work
Ask who writes the content, who does the technical changes, who builds links, and where they are. There is nothing wrong with a team spread across the country, but you should know whether the person on the sales call will ever touch your account, and whether writing is done by people who understand Canadian readers, Canadian spelling and Ontario regulations in your industry.
Reporting you can read in five minutes
Ask for a sample monthly report. It should show the searches you care about, the pages that rank for them, the calls and form submissions that came from search, and what was done that month. A report built mainly from traffic graphs and “domain authority” scores is a report built to look busy.

Questions that separate agencies quickly
- Who owns the accounts? Google Business Profile, Search Console, Analytics, the website and its hosting should be owned by you, with the agency as a manager. If the agency insists on owning any of them, walk out of the meeting.
- What happens in the first 30 days? Expect an audit, a keyword and page map, fixes to obvious technical faults, and agreement on the first content. Expect nothing to rank yet.
- How do you build links? The honest answers involve content people want to link to, local and industry listings, partners, press and sponsorships. Answers that involve buying links, private networks or guaranteed numbers of links per month are a risk to your domain.
- How do you handle AI search? Google’s AI Overviews and AI Mode, ChatGPT and Perplexity now answer many searches directly. An agency should be able to explain how they make your pages the ones those systems quote, and how they track whether that is happening.
- What will you not do? A confident agency will say which tactics they refuse, such as doorway pages for every suburb, fake reviews or hidden text. If nothing is off limits, something will be done to your site that you would not approve of.
- Can we speak to a current client? One conversation with a client who has been with the agency more than a year tells you more than any proposal.
Red flags that are easy to miss
Some warning signs sound reassuring in a sales meeting.
- Guaranteed rankings. Nobody controls Google. A guarantee usually means either the terms are vague (“page one for some keywords”) or the keywords are ones nobody searches.
- Hundreds of keywords tracked from day one. Volume of tracking is not volume of results. Twenty searches that produce customers matter more than four hundred that do not.
- “We do SEO for everyone.” Every Canadian market is specialist. Law firms, clinics, contractors, real estate and ecommerce each have their own rules, regulators and search behaviour. An agency should show it knows yours.
- Reports that only ever go up. Search results move. An honest report shows drops as well as gains and explains them.
- No questions about your business. If the first meeting is a presentation rather than an interview of you, the plan that follows will be generic.
Local, national or both
Most Toronto businesses need two layers of search visibility. Local search is the map pack and the “near me” results, driven by your Google Business Profile, reviews, consistent business details across the web and location-specific pages. Organic search is the regular results, driven by the quality and structure of your website, your content and the links pointing to it. Ask an agency how they handle each layer and which one matters more for the job you wrote down at the start. A clinic with one location and a software company selling across Canada should get very different answers.

What a healthy first six months looks like
Month one is discovery and repair: the audit, the page map, technical fixes, Google Business Profile cleanup and the first content brief. Months two and three are production: new or rewritten pages for the searches that matter, internal links tidied, the first link and citation work started. By month four you should see movement on long, specific searches and the first calls or forms that the agency can trace to search. Months five and six are when the main money searches start to move for a site that was in reasonable shape to begin with. A site with a history of penalties, a recent redesign that lost pages, or a brand-new domain takes longer, and a good agency says so at the start rather than at month six.
If after six months you cannot point to specific pages that now rank and specific enquiries that came from them, ask the agency to explain why, with the pages and searches in front of you. A good agency will have the answer ready.
Comparing proposals fairly
Lay the proposals next to each other and score them on the same five lines: understanding of your business, specificity of the plan, the people doing the work, the quality of reporting, and the honesty of the timeline. Fees matter, but only once you know what each proposal includes. Ask each agency to quote the work in writing after a proper discovery conversation rather than from a price list, because a plan that was not scoped to your site will be re-scoped later, and that is where surprises come from.
SEO company, consultant or in-house
An SEO company brings a team: technical, content and outreach people working on your site at once. A consultant brings one experienced person who audits, plans and trains, and usually relies on your team or other vendors to carry out the work. An in-house hire gives you full-time attention and knowledge of the business but one person’s skills and no outside view.
Many Canadian businesses mix them: a consultant or agency sets the plan and does the specialist work, and someone in-house writes, approves and keeps the Google Business Profile current. Whatever the mix, decide who is responsible for each of the five kinds of work above before anyone starts.
SEO for regulated industries
Law firms, dental and medical clinics, financial advisers, mortgage brokers, real estate teams and pharmacies all market under rules set by their regulators, and those rules reach SEO content. Ontario lawyers answer to the Law Society of Ontario on advertising claims; dentists to the Royal College of Dental Surgeons of Ontario, including limits on testimonials and the word “specialist”; physicians to their provincial college. An SEO company that writes pages for these businesses has to know which claims are allowed before it writes a single headline. Ask any agency which regulator governs your marketing and what that means for your pages. If the answer is vague, keep looking. Canada Create publishes separate pages for law firm SEO, dental SEO and healthcare SEO for that reason.
What drives the cost of SEO in Canada
Agencies price SEO from the scope, so two quotes for the same business can be far apart for good reasons. The things that move the scope are the number of services and locations you want to rank for, how competitive those searches are in your market, how much content has to be written or rewritten, how much technical repair the site needs, and whether links and digital PR are part of the work. A clinic with one location in a mid-sized city needs far less than a law firm competing across the Greater Toronto Area or a store selling nationally.
Ask every agency to put its scope in writing after a discovery conversation, then compare what each proposal includes before you compare fees. A low quote that leaves out content or technical work is not cheaper if the work still has to be done.
SEO companies and AI search
When someone asks ChatGPT, Perplexity or Google’s AI Mode for the best SEO company in their city, the answer is built from pages the system can find and trust: agency websites, directory profiles, review sites and lists like this one. The same is true for your own business. A good SEO company should explain how it checks whether your business appears in those answers, how it corrects wrong facts, and how it keeps your name, address, services and hours consistent everywhere AI tools read about you. Our AI search optimization page covers that work in detail.
Next step
Pick two or three agencies from your own shortlist, send each the one-page brief described above, and compare the proposals on the same lines. If you want Canada Create to be one of them, the SEO services page explains how an engagement starts, or you can request a free SEO audit of your site first. Choosing a website partner instead? Frequently asked questions
What are the best SEO companies in Canada?
This guide lists four agencies that passed the same checks, last run on November 4, 2026: Canada Create in Toronto, Stigan Media and Salt Water Digital Marketing in Vancouver, and Pekan Designs in Ottawa. Each had a strong, well-supported public record and described real SEO services on its own website. Canada Create publishes the guide and is listed first; the other three were chosen from Vancouver and Ottawa so the list does not rank our Toronto neighbours.
How were the SEO companies on this list chosen?
Each agency needed a Google rating of 4.7 or higher from at least 50 reviews, no pattern of serious complaints in its newest reviews, a clean Better Business Bureau record where one exists, SEO described as a service it delivers itself, and a physical office in Vancouver or Ottawa. Size and self-description were not used, because neither predicts rankings.
Which SEO company is the best in Toronto?
The right firm is the one that can show live rankings it earned for a business like yours, explain how it did it, and keep every account in your name. Canada Create is based in Toronto at 126 Willowdale Ave. and appears first on this list as its publisher; compare it with two or three other proposals using the questions in this guide before you decide.
How much does SEO cost in Canada?
Agencies price SEO from scope: the number of services and locations you want to rank for, how competitive those searches are, how much content and technical work the site needs, and whether links and digital PR are included. Ask each agency to quote in writing after a discovery conversation, then compare what each proposal includes before comparing fees.
Is paying someone to do SEO worth it?
It is worth it when search is how your customers look for what you sell and the agency works on the pages and searches that produce enquiries. Judge it by specific pages that rank and the calls, bookings or orders that came from them within six to twelve months, not by traffic alone.
Can I do SEO myself?
You can do a lot yourself: keep your Google Business Profile complete, ask happy customers for reviews, write clear pages for each service and fix obvious problems Search Console reports. An agency adds technical depth, content capacity, link building and an outside view, which matters most in competitive markets.
What does an SEO company actually do?
It fixes technical problems that stop pages from ranking, maps the searches that bring customers to pages that answer them, writes or improves those pages, manages local visibility through the Google Business Profile and directories, earns links from real sites, and checks how AI answer tools describe the business.
How long does it take an SEO company to show results?
Expect fixes and new pages in the first two months, movement on long, specific searches by month three or four, and the main searches moving by months five and six for a site in reasonable shape. A new domain, a past penalty or a redesign that lost pages takes longer, and a good agency says so at the start.
Is SEO still worth it now that AI answers so many searches?
Yes. Google's AI Overviews and AI Mode, ChatGPT and Perplexity draw on pages that already rank and state facts clearly, so the same work that wins regular results also earns mentions in AI answers. The job now includes checking how those tools describe your business and correcting wrong facts at the source.
What questions should I ask an SEO company before hiring it?
Ask who owns the Google Business Profile, Search Console, Analytics and the website (you should), what happens in the first 30 days, how links are earned, how AI search is handled, what the agency refuses to do, and whether you can speak to a current client of more than a year.
What are the warning signs of a bad SEO company?
Promised rankings, hundreds of keywords tracked from the first day, a claim to do SEO for every industry, reports that only ever go up, offers to buy links, and a first meeting with no questions about your business. Any one of these is a reason to look harder at the proposal.
Do I need a local SEO company or a national one?
Most businesses need both layers. Local search covers the map pack and near me results through your Google Business Profile, reviews and location pages; organic search covers the regular results through your site, content and links. A single-location clinic and a national online store need very different mixes, so ask each agency which layer matters more for you.
Why are there no other Toronto agencies on this list?
Canada Create is a Toronto agency and publishes this guide, so ranking its direct Toronto neighbours would not be a neutral exercise. The other three places went to strongly rated agencies in Vancouver and Ottawa, which also makes the list useful for readers outside the Greater Toronto Area.
