Social content guide

How social media content is planned, filmed and delivered

Social media content creation is the production side of social: planning a shoot, filming short vertical video at your business, taking photos, designing carousels and graphics, writing hooks and captions, and handing over finished, approved files ready to post. It is for owners and marketing coordinators who know what they want to say on social but do not have the time, camera skills or design hands to make it look the way the business deserves. Canada Create is a Toronto agency at 126 Willowdale Avenue that produces social posts for businesses across Canada, and we keep creation separate from posting so you can choose who publishes.

Contents

What content creation covers, and what it leaves out

When owners ask for “someone to do our social”, they usually mean three different jobs bundled together: deciding what to say, making the posts, and publishing and replying every day. This page is about the middle job. Content creation turns an idea such as “show how we prepare a custom cake order” into a twenty second Reel, a six slide carousel and three still photos, each sized correctly, captioned, approved and saved in a folder you control.

What you receive

  • Short vertical videos for Reels, TikTok and YouTube Shorts, edited with text on screen and captions.
  • Photos of your space, products, team and work, edited for colour and cropped for each platform.
  • Carousels and single graphics in your brand colours and fonts.
  • Hooks, captions and suggested hashtags, written in your voice in English or French.
  • Alt text for images and caption files for video.

What sits with other services

The choice of platforms, pillars and measures belongs to our upcoming Social media strategy page. Scheduling, publishing and answering comments belong to monthly social media management. Longer brand films, commercials and event coverage belong to video production. Creation can be bought on its own, so a coordinator who enjoys posting can keep that part in house.

Planning a shoot day around your content pillars

Good social content rarely comes from someone filming whatever happens to be going on. It comes from a shot list. Before a shoot day we agree which of your recurring themes each piece will serve, what story it tells and what the viewer should do afterwards. A physiotherapy clinic might need a short exercise demonstration, a tour of the treatment rooms and a clinician answering a common question. A furniture store might need a new arrival styled in a room, a fabric close up and a delivery day clip.

The shot list and run sheet

The run sheet lists each piece, the location in your space, who appears, props and products needed, wardrobe notes and the order of filming, so your staff step away from work for as little time as possible. It also notes anything that must stay out of frame, such as client files on a desk, a whiteboard with patient names, licence plates in a parking lot or the screen at a point of sale.

Choosing the day

We help you pick a day when the space looks its best and staff are available: a bakery before the morning rush, a gym in a quiet midday window, a contractor on the day a kitchen is finished but before the homeowner moves back in. Seasonal content, such as patio openings, holiday window displays or back to school stock, is filmed ahead so it is ready when the season starts.

Short vertical video filmed at your business

Short vertical video is now the format people expect on Instagram, TikTok and YouTube Shorts. It works for businesses because it shows the real place, the real people and the real work in a way a stock photo never can. We film on location with lighting and sound gear that fits a working environment, not a studio crew that takes over the shop.

Types of short videos that suit businesses

  • Process clips: a technician installing a part, a florist building an arrangement, a barista pulling a shot.
  • Before and after: a detailed car, a renovated bathroom, a groomed dog, a reorganized storeroom.
  • Quick answers: a staff member answering one customer question in under a minute.
  • Tours and arrivals: a new menu item, a new product line, a new treatment room.
  • Behind the scenes: setting up for an event, packing orders, the first hour of the day.

Editing for the small screen

Each video is edited with large readable text, burned in captions for people watching without sound, safe zones that keep words clear of the platform buttons, and an ending that tells viewers what to do next. Where you want longer edits or a more polished finish, the footage can also go to our upcoming Video editing services page for a fuller edit.

Photography, carousels and graphics on brand

Not every post should be a video. Carousels are often saved and shared because people can swipe through steps or comparisons at their own pace, and strong still photos still carry a feed. We photograph your space, products, team portraits and work in progress during the same visit as the video, so the feed looks consistent.

Carousels that teach or compare

A carousel might walk through “five questions to ask before booking a wedding venue”, compare two service packages, or show the steps of a repair. We design each slide with your logo, colours and fonts, keep text short enough to read on a phone, and make the first slide work as a cover that earns the swipe. Larger brand design work, such as a full template set or a new logo, sits with our graphic design service.

Photos that hold up across platforms

Each image is edited for colour so your products look the same in every post, then cropped for square, portrait and vertical placements. Product photography for an online store or catalogue is a bigger job covered by business photography; social photos are chosen and framed for the feed first.

Hooks, captions and alt text

On a short video, the opening seconds decide whether anyone watches the rest. A hook might be a surprising before shot, a question on screen, a sound that matches the action, or a staff member saying the one line customers always ask about. We write and film more than one opening for important pieces, so you can choose the stronger one or test both.

Captions in your voice

Captions do more than describe the image. They add the detail a viewer needs to act: the price range if you publish one, the booking link location, the season, the neighbourhood. We write captions that sound like your staff, keep the call to action clear and avoid filling the text with hashtags. French captions are written in French, not run through a translator.

Accessibility as standard

Every video gets captions, and every image gets alt text that describes what is shown in plain language. This helps people who use screen readers or watch on mute, and it means your content is ready if you later embed it on your website, where Ontario businesses may have obligations under AODA and building to WCAG is the usual target.

Your team and your customers on camera

People connect with people. Posts that show your staff at work, explaining what they do or reacting to a finished job tend to feel more trustworthy than polished product shots alone. The challenge is that many staff are nervous on camera, and some prefer not to appear at all.

Making staff comfortable

We keep participation voluntary, give people a short script or a single question to answer, film several takes and let them see the result before it is approved. Staff who do not want to appear can still be shown through their hands at work, a voice over or a shot from behind. Everyone shown signs a release, and the release is filed with the content.

Customer stories and UGC

Customer stories and UGC, meaning photos or video made by customers themselves, can be powerful when used with permission. We help you ask customers for permission in writing, credit them as they wish, and store that permission alongside the file. We never write or invent customer quotes, and paid creator content follows the disclosure rules below and is arranged through creator and influencer partnerships.

One shoot, many posts

A well planned shoot day should produce weeks of material. The aim is to film once and cut many ways, not to post the same thing everywhere unchanged.

How one shoot becomes a month of material

  • A long demonstration becomes a Reel, a TikTok cut with different text, a YouTube Short and a carousel of still frames.
  • A staff interview becomes several quick answer clips, each about one question.
  • Product photos become feed posts, Story frames, a carousel and images for your website and newsletter.
  • Outtakes and setup shots become behind the scenes Stories.

Planning around the calendar

Repurposing also works across time. A summer shoot for a garden centre can hold back fall planting clips, a holiday bakery shoot can include generic shots of bread and coffee that suit January, and a clinic can film several answers to the questions patients ask at the start of each new year. The shot list marks which pieces are for now and which are banked for a later season, so a quiet month still has fresh posts ready without booking another shoot.

Versions for each platform

Each platform crops, captions and displays content differently. We prepare vertical, portrait and square versions where needed, adjust on screen text to stay clear of each platform’s buttons, and label every file so whoever posts it knows where it belongs. This is also how your content library grows without another shoot every week.

Approvals and a file library you own

Finished content goes to you for review before anything is published. You see each piece with its caption, comment on changes, and approve. For regulated professions, such as clinics, legal practices or financial advisers, the review step gives your compliance person time to check claims before posting.

A library, not a pile of files

Approved content is delivered into a shared folder in your business’s name, organized by date, pillar and platform, with captions, alt text, releases and music licence notes stored next to each file. Raw footage and edited masters are included as agreed in the proposal. If you change agencies or bring social in house, the whole library goes with you.

Where creation meets posting, ads and search

The same content often does several jobs. A strong Reel can be published organically, then run as a paid placement through Instagram Reels and Stories ads or wider Meta advertising. Photos can refresh your Google Business Profile, and people who see your posts and then search for you may meet your local Google Ads or your organic listing. Videos that answer customer questions often suit a YouTube channel too, planned on our upcoming YouTube marketing page.

Enquiries that come from content, such as direct messages asking for a quote, can flow into CS+, our CRM, which we set up and connect so follow ups are not lost. The wider view of organic and paid social is on our social media marketing hub.

Licences, consent and disclosure

Making content for a business account comes with a few rules that personal accounts can often ignore. We plan for them in general terms:

  • Music: tracks in business posts need a commercial licence. Popular songs available to personal accounts are often not cleared for brands, so every track in your content is licensed for business use and the licence note is kept with the file.
  • Consent: people in photos and video, including staff, customers and passers by who are clearly identifiable, need to give consent before they appear.
  • Disclosure: paid partnership and creator posts need clear disclosure. The Competition Act and Ad Standards guidance address this in Canada.
  • Contests: giveaway posts need clear written rules, and prize contests in Canada commonly include a skill testing question.
  • Follow up messages: commercial email and texts sent to people who respond to content fall under CASL, with consent, sender identification and an unsubscribe.
  • Personal information: PIPEDA applies in general terms, and sensitive personal details should never appear in content or be used in analytics or ad targeting.

This is a marketing observation, not legal advice.

How a content engagement runs

We begin with a free review of your current posts and your space. We look at which posts drew comments and saves, what your feed looks like as a whole, and what is visually strong about your location, products and team.

From review to delivered files

  1. Free review. Your accounts, brand assets and what you want the content to show.
  2. Written proposal. Number of shoot days, deliverables per shoot, versions, languages and fees quoted in writing.
  3. Shoot planning. Shot list, run sheet, releases and a filming day that suits your schedule.
  4. Shoot and edit. Filming and photography at your business, then editing, captions and graphics.
  5. Approval and delivery. You review each piece; approved files go to your library with captions and alt text.

Many businesses book content creation as a recurring monthly or seasonal shoot. Each round includes a short report of what was delivered and which pieces performed well, so the next shot list improves.

What social content creation costs

Every content package is quoted in writing once we have seen your space and your feed. Shoot days, finished pieces and the polish each one needs are what move the number.

What drives the quote

  • Number of shoot days or half days, and whether they are at one location or several.
  • How many finished videos, photos and carousels you need from each shoot.
  • Whether you need versions for several platforms and in both English and French.
  • Product styling, props, wardrobe or a second camera operator.
  • Custom motion graphics, animated titles or licensed music beyond a standard library.
  • How quickly finished pieces are needed after each shoot, stated in the proposal.

Paid promotion of any content is billed by the platform and shown separately from our production fees.

How to choose a content partner

Many freelancers and agencies make attractive posts. The difference shows up in planning, consent and what you own at the end. Questions worth asking before you book:

  • Will you plan a shot list with us before the shoot, linked to what we want to say?
  • How will you work around our customers and staff during a working day?
  • Do you get signed releases from everyone on camera, and do we receive copies?
  • Is the music licensed for business use, and is the licence documented?
  • Will every video have captions and every image have alt text?
  • Who owns the accounts? The answer should be you, and the same goes for raw footage, edited files and the content library.
  • Can we approve each piece before it is posted?

Social media content creation questions

Is social media content creation still worth it for a small business?

For many businesses, yes, because people look at social profiles before they visit, call or book. Real photos and short videos of your space and staff answer questions a website cannot. The value depends on making content that serves a clear purpose and posting it consistently, rather than producing large volumes that nobody plans or reviews.

What is the difference between content creation and social media management?

Content creation is the production work: planning shoots, filming, photographing, designing and writing captions. Social media management is the ongoing work of scheduling, publishing, replying to comments and messages and reporting. You can buy creation alone and post yourself, or combine both so one team handles making and publishing.

How much content can we get from one shoot day?

It depends on how much is planned, how many locations and people are involved and how many platform versions you need. A shoot built from a clear shot list can produce several short videos, a set of photos and material for carousels and Stories. The written proposal lists exactly what each shoot will deliver.

Do we have to appear on camera ourselves?

No. Owners and staff can appear if they want to, but content can also show hands at work, products, the space, finished jobs and voice overs. Many effective business accounts rarely show faces. Anyone who does appear takes part voluntarily and signs a release first.

What makes a business video get shared?

Nobody can predict which video will spread. Videos that tend to be shared show something useful, surprising or satisfying, such as a transformation, a quick answer or a clever process, and they earn attention in the first seconds. Clear captions, a strong opening and a reason to send it to a friend help more than trends copied without purpose.

What is UGC and should our business use it?

UGC means content made by customers rather than the business, such as photos of a product in use or a short review video. It can feel more authentic than brand posts. Use it only with the customer's written permission, credit them as they wish, and disclose clearly when a creator is paid or given something in return.

Can our business account use popular songs in Reels and TikTok videos?

Business accounts usually cannot use the same music library as personal accounts, because many popular songs are not licensed for commercial use. Using unlicensed music can lead to muted videos or removed posts. The music in our edits is licensed for business use, and a note of the licence stays with each file.

Will software or AI replace the need for a content creator?

Software can speed up editing tasks and suggest captions, but it cannot film your space, your products or your staff, and generic generated images rarely build trust in a local business. Real footage from your location is what makes your content yours. Any automated help still needs a person to plan, check and approve every piece.

Who owns the photos and videos you create for us?

Approved content is delivered into a library in your business's name, with captions, releases and licence notes. Ownership and use of raw footage and edited files are set out in the written proposal before work begins, so you know exactly what you keep if you later bring social in house or change suppliers.

Do you write captions and hashtags too?

Yes. Each piece comes with a caption written in your voice, a clear next step for the viewer and a short set of relevant hashtags. French captions are written in French by people who speak it. Alt text for images and captions for videos are included so the content is accessible.

What content ideas work for a business that does not want to show faces?

Process clips, before and after reveals, product close ups, behind the scenes setup, screen text answers to common questions, carousels with tips, and voice overs over footage of the work all work without faces. A shot list built around your services usually finds plenty to show without anyone stepping in front of the camera.

How do approvals work before something is posted?

Each finished piece is shared with you along with its caption. You can request changes or approve it. Nothing is handed to the person who posts until it is approved. For clinics, firms and other regulated professions, this step gives whoever checks advertising claims time to review before publishing.
