This page is for owners of construction and design firms: general contractors and construction companies, custom home builders and real estate developers, renovation contractors, architects and architecture studios, interior designers, kitchen and bath companies, cabinet makers and millwork shops, and building materials suppliers. It explains how homeowners and commercial buyers find and choose you, and how search, your website, project portfolios, paid ads, follow-up and AI turn that attention into consultations, bids and signed agreements. Canada Create is a Toronto digital agency with an office at 126 Willowdale Avenue, Suite 3, serving businesses across Canada since 2008.

The trades in this hub
Construction and design firms share one trait: every sale is a project, not a purchase. A kitchen, an addition, a custom home, an office fit out or a condo tower takes months of thought and several decision makers before anyone signs. Portfolios, reputation and how clearly you explain your process do most of the selling. Each group below buys and searches in its own way.
General contractors and construction companies
Residential general contractors are found by homeowners searching “general contractor near me”, “home addition contractor” or “basement finishing Toronto”. Commercial builders are found through tender and RFQ lists, prequalification forms, referrals from architects and property managers, and searches by project type such as “retail fit out contractor” or “design build firm”. Both need a portfolio sorted by project type, clear proof of insurance and safety practice, and fast replies. Our construction marketing for contractors, builders and renovators covers the whole plan, construction company website design that helps win bids covers the site, and paid ads for contractors and builders covers search and social campaigns. For rankings, see SEO for contractors.
Renovation contractors
Renovation is the most searched part of the trade and the most crowded. Homeowners search “kitchen renovation”, “bathroom remodel”, “basement renovation”, “main floor open concept” or “renovation company” with a neighbourhood or city. They compare before and after photos, reviews, how long the firm has worked in the area and whether someone will come out for a site visit soon. Renovators who also handle plumbing, roofing or similar trade work can read about home services marketing for trades.
Custom home builders and developers
Custom home builders sell to a small number of buyers with large budgets who search “custom home builder”, “luxury home builder Oakville” or “knockdown rebuild”. They want to see finished homes, the build process and how the builder handles design, permits and selections. Developers sell a community or a tower before it exists, through registrations, broker events and launch campaigns. See home builder marketing for home and condo sales, SEO for home builders and new communities, real estate developer marketing for launches and registrations and a developer CRM for registrants, brokers and purchasers. Agents and brokerages sit on our real estate marketing page.
Architects and architecture studios
Architecture firms win work through reputation, published projects, competitions and referrals, and increasingly through search: “residential architect Toronto”, “architect for a house addition”, “heritage renovation architect”, “commercial architecture firm”. Clients want a body of work that shows judgement, a clear explanation of how a project moves from concept to drawings to construction, and a sense of the studio’s thinking. In the wider AEC world, engineering and construction firms also sell to each other. Read about architecture marketing for project leads and architect SEO for studios.
Interior designers
Interior designers are found by homeowners searching “interior designer near me”, “condo interior design” or “full home design”, and by commercial clients planning offices, restaurants and clinics. Instagram and Pinterest style boards shape taste, but the hire is decided in a consultation. Designers need a portfolio by room and style, a clear description of services (consultation, full design, procurement, project management) and a booking path for the first meeting. See marketing for interior designers who want project enquiries, SEO for interior design studios and AI tools for interior design studios.
Kitchen and bath companies and cabinet makers
Kitchen and bath firms, cabinet makers and millwork shops sell through the showroom. Buyers search “kitchen cabinets near me”, “custom cabinetry”, “bathroom vanities”, “kitchen showroom” or “millwork Toronto”, then visit to touch doors, finishes and hardware. The marketing goal is a booked showroom visit or design appointment. Read about our kitchen and bath marketing agency work, kitchen cabinets advertising for showrooms and organic search for custom cabinet makers.
Building materials suppliers and yards
Suppliers, lumber yards, stone and tile importers and distributors sell to two buyers: trade accounts who reorder and want product data, availability and a rep, and homeowners who want to see a sample and find a showroom. A product catalogue that search engines can read, spec sheets and a clear trade account path matter most. See website design for building materials suppliers and yards.
Homeowners and commercial buyers
Most firms in this hub sell to one or both of two very different buyers, and the marketing for each looks nothing alike.
Homeowners
A homeowner planning a renovation, an addition or a custom home often researches for a long stretch before calling anyone. Couples look at photos together, save ideas, read reviews and ask friends. When they reach out, they usually contact three or more firms and choose on trust: a portfolio that looks like their house, reviews that mention communication and clean job sites, proof of licences and insurance, a clear process, and how fast and how well the first call was handled. Pages that explain what a kitchen or basement project involves, step by step, earn these buyers early.
Commercial and institutional buyers
Property owners, developers, facility managers and general contractors buying from trades work from tender and RFQ lists, prequalification packages and relationships. They search by project type, check safety records and capacity, and look for firms that have built similar work. Your website should hold a project list by sector, downloadable prequalification documents, safety and insurance information and named contacts for estimating. LinkedIn and direct outreach matter more than social ads here; see B2B marketing and lead generation for project enquiries.
Several decision makers
Whether it is a couple, a family, a board or a development team, more than one person approves the spend. Give each one something to read: process pages for the cautious partner, cost driver explanations for the one holding the budget, and portfolio pages for the one who cares about design.
Local search, showrooms and Google Business Profile
For renovators, designers, kitchen and bath showrooms and suppliers, the map results often decide who gets the call. A Google Business Profile needs the right primary category (general contractor, kitchen remodeler, interior designer, cabinet maker, building materials supplier), the service area or showroom address, real project photos, services listed by name, and a link to book a consultation or a showroom visit. Our Google Business Profile upkeep service covers this, and local SEO for Toronto and GTA neighbourhoods builds the area and project type pages that support it.
Reviews from homeowners and clients
Ask every client for a review at the right moment, usually at the final walkthrough, and reply to each one with details about the project (without naming the client or the address). Reviews that mention cleanliness, communication, budget discussions and the crew carry more weight than star counts. Our brand reputation management helps keep that steady.
Service areas and project type pages
A contractor serving Toronto, Vaughan, Markham and Oakville needs useful pages for the areas and project types it actually builds, each with real projects from that area, not a list of cities. Our SEO service plans those pages around the searches each project type draws.
Websites and project portfolios
In this hub the portfolio is the product. A visitor needs to see work that looks like their project within a few seconds of landing.
Portfolio pages by project type
Sort projects by type (kitchens, basements, additions, custom homes, commercial fit outs, restaurants, offices) and give each project its own page: the brief, the challenge, the scope, the materials and finishes, the result and good photos. Before and after sets, shown with the homeowner’s permission, are some of the most persuasive pages a renovator can publish. Architects and designers can add drawings, sketches and a short design statement.
Process, credentials and trust
Explain how a project runs, from the first consultation and site visit to design, estimate, permits, construction and handover. Show the licences and registrations that apply to you, insurance and safety practice, workmanship coverage you offer in plain terms, and the people a client will deal with (with consent). Commercial firms add prequalification documents, safety programs and capacity.
Consultation and estimate requests
The request form should ask what an estimator needs: project type, address or area, rough scope, timing, and whether drawings exist, without asking for a budget number on the first screen. We build these sites on WordPress or Webflow as the client prefers; read about web design in Toronto and web development. Project write-ups and process pages can be drafted through our content writing service.
Paid search, Local Services Ads and social
Google search ads
Search ads suit high value, high intent searches: “kitchen renovation contractor”, “basement underpinning”, “custom home builder”, “commercial general contractor”. Campaigns should be split by project type and area, run only on searches that match work you want, exclude jobs you do not take (small repairs, handyman work, DIY searches), and track calls and consultation requests so you see the cost of each real enquiry rather than each click. See our Google search and call campaigns.
Local Services Ads
Where Google offers Local Services Ads for your trade and area, they appear above search ads and charge per lead rather than per click. They depend on reviews, a verified business and quick replies. For many renovators and trades they earn their place beside regular search ads, not instead of them.
Social and LinkedIn
Instagram, Facebook, Pinterest and YouTube suit visual work: kitchens, bathrooms, interiors, custom homes and cabinetry. Short videos of a project from demolition to finish, design reveals and showroom tours build interest with homeowners who are still planning. LinkedIn suits commercial builders, architects and suppliers selling to developers, owners and other firms. See social media management and social media advertising.
Lead sites versus your own enquiries
Paid lead sites sell the same homeowner to several contractors. Many owners use them while building their own channels, then shift spend as their profile, site and ads bring in enquiries that belong only to them.
Estimates, bids and follow-up in CS+
Construction and design sales are long, and most lost work is lost in follow-up: an estimate sent and never chased, a showroom visitor who was never called back, a tender invitation missed. CS+ is our CRM; we set it up and connect it to your forms, phone and email so each enquiry has an owner and a next step. See CRM and automation with CS+ and construction CRM for bids, subcontractors and projects.
Residential pipelines
A typical residential pipeline runs from enquiry to site visit, design meeting, estimate, revised estimate and signed agreement. The CRM sends reminders before visits, follows up on estimates at set intervals and records why a job was lost. Past clients get an occasional, opted in note when it fits, since repeat projects and referrals matter to most renovators.
Commercial bids and tenders
Commercial firms track invitations to bid, RFQs, submission dates, addenda, the architects and owners involved and the result of each bid. Developers track registrants, brokers and purchasers by project. A clean pipeline shows which relationships bring the work you want. For commercial email, see email marketing.
Renderings, virtual tours and project photos
Buyers in this hub decide with their eyes. Before a project exists, renderings and virtual tours carry the sale; after it is built, photography does.
Pre-construction and design work
Developers, builders, designers and kitchen showrooms use photoreal renderings, walkthrough animations and virtual tours to sell a home, a suite or a design before anything is built. Read about architectural rendering for designers and showrooms and 3D rendering, virtual tours, drone and AR or VR.
Finished project photography
Good project photography, taken in daylight with the space styled and finished, earns far more trust than quick phone snaps. Plan a shoot at handover for every project worth showing, ask the client in writing for permission to publish, and keep addresses and personal items out of frame. See architectural and project photography and project video production. A consistent look across your site and trucks also helps; see brand identity.
AI for calls, estimates and AI search
Owners and estimators are on job sites, in showrooms or in meetings when calls come in. An AI receptionist that answers while you are on site can take the project type, area and timing, answer common questions about services and showroom hours, book a consultation and pass urgent calls to a person.
Chat and intake help
A website chat agent can answer the questions homeowners ask every day (Do you handle permits? Do you work in my area? Do you do small bathrooms?) and guide them to the right request form. Our AI agency services cover chat, voice and simple automation for intake.
Being found in AI search
Homeowners and buyers now ask AI assistants questions such as “who builds custom homes in King City” or “kitchen cabinet makers in Mississauga with a showroom”. Clear project pages, consistent listings and reviews help those answers include you; see AI search optimization for project firms.
Seasons and project cycles
Renovation demand
Renovation research rises in late winter and spring, when homeowners plan summer work, and again in early fall for projects they want finished before the holidays. Exterior work, additions and new builds follow the building season, while basements, kitchens and interiors run through the winter. Plan content and campaigns ahead of each peak and use quieter stretches to photograph finished jobs and publish them.
Permits and project timing
Building permits are issued by municipalities, and design and approval stages can stretch a project well before construction starts. Marketing should explain these stages honestly without promising permit timing, approvals or costs, and the CRM should keep in touch with clients who are waiting on drawings or approvals.
Launches and tender seasons
Developers plan around launch events, registration periods and broker previews. Commercial firms follow owner and public budget cycles that release many tenders at certain times of the year. Kitchen and bath showrooms often see busy weekends around home shows.
Rules and privacy to plan for
This hub includes several regulated titles and claims. This is a marketing observation, not legal advice.
Builders and new homes
In Ontario, new homes are covered by Tarion, and new home builders and vendors must be licensed by the Home Construction Regulatory Authority (HCRA), which keeps the Ontario Builder Directory. Never describe a builder as licensed unless it is, and make sure licence details on the site match the directory.
Architects and interior designers
“Architect” is a protected title in Ontario, regulated by the Ontario Association of Architects, and other provinces regulate architecture too. Interior designers in Ontario use the ARIDO title only when registered. Copy, ads and profiles should use these titles only where they apply.
Claims, permits and photos
Building permits are municipal, so marketing must not promise approvals, permit timing or costs. Under the Competition Act, price claims, “Made in Canada” claims, workmanship coverage claims and green building claims must be accurate and not misleading. Photos taken in clients’ homes need the client’s permission, and addresses should stay private.
Privacy and B2B email
CASL applies to business email too: you need consent or a documented business relationship, clear sender identification and an unsubscribe in every message. PIPEDA sets general rules for the contact data you collect. Firms in Quebec also plan for Law 25 and the Charter of the French Language.
How we work with you
Start with a free review
We begin with a free review of your Google Business Profile, website, portfolio, reviews, ads and how enquiries are handled, seen through the eyes of a homeowner or a project owner shortlisting firms. You then receive a written plan and proposal with our fees quoted in writing, so the scope is clear before anything is built.
Build, launch and monthly reporting
Once you approve the plan, Canada Create puts it in place piece by piece: project pages, profile fixes, campaigns and the CS+ pipeline. Estimate forms are sent through end to end before launch. A monthly report then counts consultation requests, showroom bookings, bid invitations, new reviews and ad spend, and names what to work on before the next building season. The Google Business Profile, ad accounts, analytics, domain and website all sit under your company name.
What drives the cost
Our fees are quoted in writing after a free consultation, since a single cabinet shop and a developer launching a community need very different work. Ad spend, rendering software, CRM add ons the client chooses and other platform subscriptions are paid to those vendors and shown separately from our fees.
What changes the scope
- How many project types, service areas and showrooms need their own pages and profiles.
- The size of the portfolio to photograph, write up and publish.
- Whether you need a new site, a portfolio rebuild or upkeep on the site you have.
- How many channels run together: search, Local Services Ads, social, LinkedIn, email and CRM.
- Renderings, virtual tours and video for pre-construction or design work.
- Connections to estimating, project or bid tracking systems you already run.
How to choose an agency
Before you hire anyone to market a construction or design firm, ask these questions.
Questions for any agency
- Who owns the accounts? The answer should be you: the Google Business Profile, ad accounts, analytics, domain, website and the photos you paid for.
- Can you show you understand how homeowners and project owners choose firms like ours?
- How will you measure consultations, estimates and bids rather than traffic alone?
- How will you keep out searches for work we do not take?
- How do you handle client permission for project photos?
- Will you write about our projects in our words and respect regulated titles?
- What will the monthly report show, and who will explain it?

Construction and design marketing questions
How do construction companies get more projects?
Show the work you want more of, sorted by project type, with real photos and clear write-ups. Keep your Google Business Profile current and ask every client for a review at handover. Run search ads only on project types you take. Answer every enquiry quickly, follow up on every estimate, and for commercial work keep prequalification documents ready and stay in touch with architects and owners.
How do contractors get leads without paying lead sites?
Build channels that belong to you: a Google Business Profile with steady reviews, a website with project pages for each service and area, search ads aimed at the jobs you want, and a CRM that follows up on every estimate. Past clients and referral partners such as designers and architects bring repeat work when you stay in touch with consent.
How should an architect or interior designer market a studio?
Lead with a portfolio that shows your thinking: project pages with the brief, the design response and strong photography. Explain your services and stages plainly, publish a few useful articles on the questions clients ask, keep your Google Business Profile complete and use Instagram or LinkedIn to share work in progress. Use the architect or ARIDO title only where you hold it.
What should a construction company website include?
Project pages sorted by type, before and after photos shown with permission, a clear explanation of your process, licences, registrations, insurance and safety practice, service area pages, reviews and an estimate request form that asks what your estimator needs. Commercial firms should add a project list by sector and downloadable prequalification documents.
Is SEO worth it for contractors and home builders?
For most firms it is, because homeowners and project owners research for a long time before they call, and each project has high value. Pages for each project type and area, a strong Google Business Profile and real project photos keep you visible during that research. Results build over time and depend on your area, your competitors and how much real work you can show.
How do kitchen and bath companies and cabinet makers get more showroom visits?
Make the showroom easy to find and easy to book. Keep your Google Business Profile complete with hours, photos and a booking link, publish project pages by style and room, and run search ads on cabinetry and renovation searches near the showroom. Offer design appointments online, send reminders before visits and follow up after each one.
How do builders market a new community or development?
Start before launch with a registration page, renderings, floor plans and a clear story about the location. Collect registrations with consent, keep brokers informed, and use search and social ads to build the list ahead of the launch event. A CRM tracks registrants, brokers and purchasers. In Ontario, licence details must match the HCRA Ontario Builder Directory.
How much does marketing cost for a construction or design firm?
Our fees are quoted in writing after a free consultation. The scope depends on how many project types and areas you serve, the size of the portfolio to publish, whether you need a new site, how many channels run together and whether you need renderings or video. Ad spend and software subscriptions are paid to the vendor and shown separately from our fees.
Should a contractor use Google Ads or Local Services Ads?
Often both, where Local Services Ads are offered for your trade and area. Local Services Ads charge per lead and rely on reviews and quick replies; search ads give more control over project types, areas and the searches you exclude. Many contractors start with search ads for high value work and add Local Services Ads once reviews are strong.
Who owns the accounts?
Your firm does. Open the Google Business Profile, ad accounts, analytics, domain and website under the company, and keep the original files of every project photo and rendering you paid for. An agency works through granted access. If you ever change who markets the firm, your reviews, portfolio and bid history stay exactly where they are.
How do I show project photos without breaking client privacy?
Ask each client in writing for permission to photograph and publish their project. Keep street numbers, licence plates, family photos and personal items out of frame, and describe the location by neighbourhood or city rather than address. Never name the client without consent, and remove a project promptly if a client asks.
What is the difference between design and construction?
Design decides what will be built: the layout, drawings, materials and specifications, prepared by architects, engineers or designers. Construction builds it on site, managed by a contractor or builder. Some firms offer design build, handling both under one signed agreement. For marketing, each needs different proof: design firms show thinking and drawings, builders show finished work, process and site management.

Every missed estimate follow-up is a project lost
A homeowner who never heard back, or a bid invitation that slipped by, goes to another firm. A strong portfolio, honest reviews and steady follow-up keep more of that work with you. Book a free marketing review and see what we would fix first.
