More calls from local searches

Pages and a Business Profile that match what nearby customers type, so enquiries come from the areas you actually serve.

Each valuable service gets its own page, checked against the pages that rank above you today.

Visibility in AI answers

Clear, consistent facts and direct answers that AI Overviews and assistants can quote when buyers ask who to call.

Organic calls, forms and bookings by page, with the work done and the work planned, in one plain report.

How the work starts for businesses in Calgary

Every engagement starts with a free review of your website, Google Business Profile, ad accounts and tracking. You then receive a custom proposal that sets out the channels, the order of work, the targets and the fees before anything starts; ad spend is paid to the platform directly.

Tracking goes in first, then the foundations and the campaigns that fit your goals, with a monthly report your team can read. Each channel is explained in full on our SEO services page.

How search works for local businesses, and how we approach it

SEO in Calgary, planned around the searches your customers make

SEO Calgary business owners can measure starts with one question: when a customer in the city types the service you sell into Google, whose name do they see first? Search engine optimization is the work of making your website and your Google Business Profile the clearest, most useful and most trusted answer to that search. For a local business that means three places on the results page at once: the map pack, the organic listings below it, and AI-generated answers where Google shows them.

Canada Create has worked on search for businesses in Canada since 2008. We plan SEO from the results Google actually shows for your searches, we fix what holds your site back, we write the pages buyers need, and we report every month on the calls, forms and bookings the work produces. This page explains how SEO works, what our service includes, what it costs, how long it takes and how to judge any SEO company you are considering, including us.

What search engine optimization is and how it works

Google wants to show the page that best answers a search. It decides by reading your pages, checking how the rest of the web refers to you, and judging how well your site works for the person on the other end. SEO improves each of those signals. The work falls into five connected areas, and a plan that ignores any one of them usually stalls.

On-page SEO

On-page SEO is the content and structure of each page: the title tag, headings, copy, internal links, images and the questions the page answers. A strong service page explains what you do, who it is for, what it costs or what drives the cost, how the process works and why a buyer should trust you. It is written for people first and organized so Google can understand it.

Off-page SEO

Off-page SEO is how other websites refer to your business. Links from relevant sites, mentions in local media, listings in trusted directories and reviews on your Business Profile all tell Google that real people know and use your business. Relevant earned references can help establish authority. We avoid paid links intended to manipulate rankings; legitimate advertising and sponsorship links are qualified appropriately.

Technical SEO

Technical SEO makes sure Google can crawl, render and index your pages without friction. It covers site speed on real phones, Core Web Vitals, redirects, canonical tags, duplicate pages, structured data, XML sitemaps and internal linking. Technical problems rarely show on the surface, yet they quietly cap how high good content can rank.

Local SEO

Local SEO improves the signals relevant to map visibility: your Google Business Profile, its categories and services, your reviews and replies, and consistent name, address and phone details across directories. For a business that serves customers in person, it is often where the first enquiries come from.

AI search visibility

AI search visibility, sometimes called generative engine optimization or GEO, is the newest area. Google AI Overviews, ChatGPT and other assistants summarize providers and answer questions before anyone clicks. Google retains established SEO fundamentals for its AI search features. Other assistants use their own retrieval systems. We make service information clear and verifiable, then check observed visibility without treating a ranking or structured data as a promise of citation.

How search has changed, and what is replacing SEO

People ask whether AI is replacing SEO. The honest answer is that it is changing where the answer appears, not whether search matters. AI search features use sources to answer questions, but their selection systems differ. Useful, accessible content remains worth investing in; ordinary search rank alone does not tell us whether an assistant will mention a business.

What has changed is the shape of a winning page. Thin pages written around a keyword have lost ground. Pages that answer the full question, show real proof and make the next step obvious have gained it. Zero-click results mean some searchers get their answer without visiting any site, so the searches worth winning are the ones where a buyer is ready to call, book or ask for a quote. Measurement has changed too: rankings alone say little, and the useful numbers are enquiries by page.

So nothing is replacing SEO. It now includes AI search visibility alongside the map pack and the organic results, and the same foundations serve all three.

Customers still search first: is SEO in Calgary still worth it in 2026?

For most local and service businesses, yes, with one condition: the work has to target searches that bring buyers and be measured by the enquiries it produces. SEO is worth it when your customers search before they buy, when each new customer is worth enough to justify months of steady work, and when you can handle more enquiries once they arrive.

It is a weaker fit for a business that needs sales this week, has no website it can change, or sells something nobody searches for yet. In those cases paid search, referrals or other channels may come first, with SEO added once the basics are in place. We say so in the free review when that is the case.

The value of SEO compounds. Useful pages can continue attracting enquiries without a media charge for each organic click, while content, technical upkeep and competition still affect their performance. That is the main reason businesses keep investing in it even as paid channels grow.

What our SEO services include

Every engagement is built from the same foundations and then weighted toward whatever is holding your rankings back. These are the types of SEO services a plan can contain.

Research and a keyword to page map

We confirm the searches that bring buyers in your category, check who ranks for each one and why, and match every service and area you want to win to a single page. This identifies overlapping intent and shows which pages to differentiate, consolidate or build first.

Technical fixes made directly

We fix technical problems in WordPress, Shopify, Webflow and custom sites ourselves rather than sending a list for someone else to action. Because Canada Create builds websites as well as ranking them, the people making changes understand the code.

Service pages and content

Pages written from the questions buyers ask, compared against the pages that rank above you, with cost drivers, process, proof and FAQs. We also refresh or merge old blog posts that compete with service pages.

Google Business Profile and citations

Categories, services, products, hours, photos, posts and a review request process, plus accurate listings on the Canadian and Alberta directories that matter in your category.

Links and mentions

Links earned from trade associations, chambers of commerce, suppliers, partners, community groups you support and local media. Each one is placed on a site relevant to your business.

Tracking and reporting

Call, form and booking tracking connected to landing-page and channel reporting, with a monthly report in plain language and a call to go through it. Search Console query data helps explain demand; individual enquiries cannot always be assigned to an organic search phrase. Enquiries flow into CS+, our CRM, when you want them tracked from first contact to sale.

The map pack and the areas you serve

The map pack is decided by relevance to the search, distance from the searcher and prominence, which Google judges from reviews, links, mentions and overall presence on the web. An eligible storefront or service-area business can compete for local visibility. Distance matters, so results can differ between Calgary quadrants even when the same phrase is searched. A verified address alone does not establish profile eligibility.

For a storefront or office, we strengthen visibility around the address first, then extend reach through reviews, content and links that mention the areas you serve. For a service-area business such as a trade, cleaner or mobile service, we set the service area in your Business Profile to where the crews actually work and build content around real jobs in those communities.

We never recommend a virtual office or mailbox address to appear in local results. Google’s guidelines prohibit it, those listings are regularly suspended, and the reviews attached to them can be lost. A genuine business based outside Calgary can pursue organic search and eligible advertising, while local visibility depends on its actual location, eligibility and the search context. Municipal boundaries do not automatically exclude it from map results.

Many businesses also serve nearby towns. A dedicated page for a town makes sense only where there is real demand and real work to show. Near-identical pages with a different town name rarely rank and can weaken the rest of the site.

Common SEO mistakes and how to avoid them

Most sites that struggle to rank are held back by a handful of ordinary problems rather than one dramatic one. These are the issues we look for first.

  • One page for every service. A single services page may not explain furnace repair, air conditioning installation and duct cleaning in enough depth. Separate pages are useful when the services have distinct buyer questions and demand.
  • Town pages copied from a template. Pages with only the place name changed rarely rank and can drag down the rest of the site.
  • A Business Profile that contradicts the website. Different phone numbers, outdated hours or the wrong primary category weaken map-pack visibility.
  • Slow pages on phones. Oversized images and heavy page builders cost rankings and enquiries on mobile connections.
  • Chasing rankings instead of enquiries. Without call and form tracking, decisions end up based on positions rather than revenue.
  • Buying links. Links from unrelated networks can trigger penalties that take months to undo.
  • Changing platforms without redirects. A redesign that drops old URLs can erase years of rankings in a week. We map every redirect before launch.

How much does SEO cost?

SEO from Canada Create is custom-scoped after a free review of your site and competitors. The written proposal reflects the work needed for the searches that matter to you.

What drives the cost of SEO

  • Competition. Categories where the top three businesses invest heavily in content and links need more work to overtake.
  • Scope. Each service, location or product line that deserves its own page adds research, writing and upkeep.
  • The state of your website. A site with technical debt, missing pages or a platform that is hard to edit needs more work early on.
  • Content and authority needs. The number of new pages and the amount of link and mention work needed to reach the top positions.
  • Reporting and integrations. Call tracking, CRM connections and custom dashboards add setup time.

How much should you expect to pay?

Expect to pay for the work a custom proposal specifies, not for a package name. A useful proposal names the searches, the pages and the technical problems specific to your business and explains what each month of work covers. Very low monthly fees usually mean automated reports and little real work. Setup work such as a site migration or a full content rebuild may be quoted separately, and paid advertising spend is always separate from the SEO fee.

How long SEO takes, and whether it ever stops

SEO does not give immediate results. We use the first six to twelve weeks to implement and assess priority work. New service pages may take several months to establish visibility, depending on site condition, competition and implementation. The work schedule is agreed separately from expectations for rankings and enquiries.

We report leading indicators every month, such as impressions in Search Console, movement on searches you were already close to winning and the first organic enquiries, so you can judge progress early rather than wait six months for a verdict.

Is SEO one-time or ongoing?

Some SEO is one-time: a technical audit and repair, a site migration or a set of new service pages. Rankings, though, are held against competitors who keep working, and Google keeps changing. Most businesses keep a lighter level of ongoing work once the main gains are made, covering new content, reviews, links and technical upkeep.

Who owns the work?

Your business keeps control of its business accounts and customer data. Third-party software and licensed materials retain their existing terms.

Qualified traffic and pages that turn searches into leads

More visitors are only useful if they are the right visitors. We prioritize bottom-of-funnel searches first: the service, the problem and the place, typed by someone ready to call. Those pages carry the clearest calls to action, click-to-call buttons on mobile, short forms and answers to the objections that stop people from enquiring.

Once those pages are working, we add content for earlier questions, such as how to choose a provider, what affects the cost and how long a job takes. Those articles build authority, feed AI answers and link to the service pages that convert. Together they give buyers useful routes from research to an enquiry, with performance reviewed against the cost of maintaining the content.

Does SEO work for every type of business?

SEO works for most businesses whose customers search before they buy, but the approach differs by category.

  • Home services and trades rely on the map pack, urgent searches and seasonal demand. Chinooks and hailstorms can bring sudden spikes in searches for furnace, pipe, roof and siding repair, so pages need to be ready before the weather turns.
  • Clinics and health practices compete close to home on reviews and treatment pages, within the advertising standards of their regulatory colleges.
  • Law, accounting and professional firms win on detailed practice pages, professional profiles and reviews, because clients compare several providers before calling.
  • Industrial and B2B companies in energy, engineering and manufacturing target specific, high-value searches with capability pages, certifications and project detail.
  • Hospitality and events see demand peak around the Stampede each July and need listings and content in place well before it.
  • E-commerce and national brands depend more on product and category pages, technical SEO at scale and content than on the map pack.

Who does the work

Ask any SEO company whether its work is outsourced. At Canada Create your plan is run by one named strategist who answers your calls, with our own team handling technical fixes, content and Business Profile work. You always know who is responsible for your account.

Privacy rules for Alberta websites

Alberta’s Personal Information Protection Act applies to provincially regulated private-sector organizations; federal privacy requirements can also apply depending on the organization and activity. Contact forms, booking tools, call tracking and analytics all collect some personal information, so they should be set up with a clear privacy policy and a stated purpose. Commercial email and text campaigns need the applicable consent or exemption, sender identification and an unsubscribe mechanism under Canada’s Anti-Spam Legislation. When we install tracking or connect forms to a CRM, we collect only what is needed. This is not legal advice; confirm specific obligations with your own adviser.

Working with us as a Calgary business

Our office is at 126 Willowdale Ave., Suite #3, Toronto, and we work with Alberta businesses by video, phone and email, scheduling calls on Mountain Time, with in-person sessions when a project benefits from them. Research, technical fixes, content, Business Profile management and reporting are all handled by one team, so the quality of the data behind the plan matters more than where the team sits.

That data is local. We check rankings from your market, study the businesses that actually compete with you, and write content with local detail that you review before it goes live. When a page needs photos of your work or premises, we use your own images or a local photographer rather than stock pictures. Call toll-free +1 (800) 808-9235, Monday to Friday, 9 am to 6 pm, and Saturday, 10 am to 2 pm. After hours, our 24/7 AI agent answers the same line, and we’ll follow up the next business morning.

How to choose an SEO company in Calgary

Rankings on list sites such as Clutch and GoodFirms are a starting point, not a decision. Many agencies make similar promises, and these questions help separate them.

  • Do they guarantee first-page rankings? No one controls Google’s results. A ranking guarantee is a warning sign.
  • Will they show a plan for your business? A proposal should name the searches, pages and technical problems specific to you.
  • Who does the work? Ask who writes the content, who makes technical changes and who you talk to each month.
  • What will the report show? Look for calls, forms and bookings by page, not only keyword positions.
  • Who owns the accounts? Your business should control its accounts and customer data, with deliverable ownership, licences and handover explained in the agreement.
  • What is their public record? Canada Create is BBB Accredited with an A+ rating and has worked in search since 2008.

Is SEO difficult to learn?

The basics are learnable. A business owner can write a clear title tag, keep a Business Profile current, ask customers for reviews and answer common questions on the website. Doing SEO well in a competitive category is harder: it takes technical skill, time for research and writing, and the experience to know which of hundreds of possible tasks will actually move rankings. Many owners start themselves and bring in help when the work outgrows the hours they can spare. We are happy to point out what you can handle in-house during the free review.

SEO, Google Ads and your wider marketing

SEO and paid search work best together. Google Ads can test demand quickly and show recorded conversions while organic visibility develops. We assess qualified enquiries and acquisition costs before changing the balance of paid and organic investment. We run both from one keyword map so paid and organic pages support each other.

If you need more than search, such as a new website, social media or a full campaign, see our marketing agency Calgary page. Questions that save money: Calgary SEO answers for local owners

Can ChatGPT do SEO?

ChatGPT and similar tools can help with parts of SEO, such as drafting outlines, suggesting questions customers ask or rewriting a page title. They cannot see your analytics, check how your site performs in Calgary results, fix technical problems or judge what your customers actually need. Content produced without review can also be inaccurate or generic, which does not help you rank. Used by someone who knows SEO, AI speeds up the work; used alone, it rarely replaces it.

Can I do SEO myself?

You can do a lot of it yourself, especially for a small Calgary business. Keep your Google Business Profile complete, ask happy customers for reviews, write a separate page for each main service and make sure your site loads quickly on phones. The harder parts are technical SEO, competitive keywords and tracking which work brings enquiries. If you have more budget than time, or your market is crowded, hiring help for those parts usually makes sense.

Does SEO work for every type of business?

SEO suits businesses whose customers search before they buy, such as trades, clinics, professional services, retailers and B2B suppliers. It helps less when hardly anyone searches for what you sell, when you need customers this week, or when each sale is too small to justify months of steady work. In those cases, advertising, referrals or partnerships may come first. A short review of search demand in Calgary for your services will show whether SEO fits.

What are common SEO mistakes Calgary businesses make?

Common mistakes include one page trying to cover every service, copying the same text across pages for different Calgary communities, ignoring the Google Business Profile and judging progress by rankings instead of enquiries. Redesigning a site without redirects can wipe out years of visibility. Cheap link packages or offers of fast results often create problems that take months to undo. Most of these are avoidable with a clear plan agreed before any work starts.

How much does SEO cost in Calgary?

SEO is custom-scoped after discovery. We quote the work for your locations, services, competition, website condition and content needs in writing before it starts.

How much should I expect to pay for SEO?

Expect to pay for the work a custom proposal specifies. Very low fees usually mean automated reports and little real work. Setup projects are quoted separately and ad spend is always separate.

What is the 80/20 rule in SEO?

It is a rule of thumb that a small share of your pages and searches usually brings most of your enquiries. In Calgary that is often your Business Profile, a few strong service pages and genuine reviews, so we look at those first.

Can you get my business into the Calgary map pack?

For an eligible storefront or service-area business, local visibility is assessed against relevance, distance and prominence. We do not use virtual offices to misrepresent locations. A nearby business is not automatically excluded by a city boundary, and no map position is promised.

How long does SEO take to work in Calgary?

Priority technical and profile work starts early. New pages may need several months to establish visibility, depending on competition and the site. Reports distinguish completed work from changes in enquiries and rankings.

Is SEO still worth it with AI search?

SEO remains useful when customers search for what you sell. Google retains established SEO fundamentals for its AI search features, while other assistants use their own systems. We assess observed visibility and enquiries without promising citations.

Is SEO one-time or ongoing?

Audits, migrations and new pages can be one-time projects. Holding rankings against active competitors usually needs lighter ongoing work for content, reviews, links and upkeep.

Do you also run Google Ads for Calgary businesses?

Yes. Many clients run both from one keyword map so paid and organic pages support each other. Ad management is quoted separately.
