When we launched our video membership site with MemberPress, we often questioned what factors truly influenced a visitor to sign up. Was it a specific blog post, an engaging tutorial, or perhaps a page they frequently revisited?
Lacking clear data makes it feel like you’re merely guessing which content resonates best. This uncertainty complicates identifying where your efforts yield results and where potential opportunities might be overlooked.
That’s why we began tracking the customer journey. By integrating MemberPress with MonsterInsights, we can analyze the steps users take prior to subscribing, allowing us to better understand what strategies are effective and make necessary adjustments.
In this guide, we will provide a step-by-step process for setting up the same tracking system, enabling you to gain valuable insights, enhance your website, and increase your signups. ✅
Why is Tracking the Customer Journey Important with MemberPress?
Tracking the customer journey in MemberPress is crucial as it reveals precisely which content on your site persuades visitors to become paying members. ✅
For a WordPress membership site, the customer journey encompasses every action a user takes, starting from their initial visit to the point they access exclusive content, online courses, or digital downloads.
MemberPress is a widely-used membership plugin that offers a variety of advanced features. It enables you to accept payments, create different membership tiers, develop exclusive content, manage access based on membership levels, establish members-only forums, and much more.
However, it lacks built-in customer journey tracking capabilities.
The good news is that by integrating MemberPress with MonsterInsights, you can track the initial pages customers visit, monitor their navigation through your website, and analyze the time they spend on each page before they decide to sign up.
This data provides valuable insights into customer behavior, allowing you to enhance the user experience on your WordPress site and increase your sign-up rates.

5. Utilizing Customer Journey Tracking in MemberPress
Now that you are monitoring customer journeys in MemberPress, you can leverage this data to enhance your website and boost conversions.
For instance, if you analyze several customer journeys and identify a trend, you might find that many visitors read your blog post, “10 Best Stretches for Back Pain,” just before subscribing to your yoga video library.
This indicates that the post is an effective conversion tool. To further increase your sales and conversion rates, you could then:
- make the signup form more visible on that post
- increase the number of internal links to this post or page from other articles on your site
- offer an exclusive discount for your readers
- create a dedicated landing page that provides all the necessary information
In addition to analyzing the posts your visitors are engaging with, examine users who purchased a membership with fewer steps or in less time. Are there any common traits that can help you target similar users?
For example, they might share a similar location or age demographic, or they could come from the same referral source.
By exploring customer journeys in MemberPress, you’ll gain insights into your online sign-up process and sales funnel. This understanding can help enhance customer experience and boost sales.
