Client Background
The client is an independent women’s fashion apparel brand based in Toronto, selling contemporary ready-to-wear pieces through its own Shopify store as well as a small flagship showroom in Queen West. Founded seven years earlier, the brand had built an engaged following on social media and relied heavily on influencer partnerships and paid social ads to drive sales. With a catalog of around 400 SKUs and a small in-house team of five, the brand was profitable but had never invested meaningfully in search engine optimization, leaving a significant channel of intent-driven traffic almost entirely untapped.
Rising costs on paid social platforms had started eating into margins, and leadership wanted to diversify acquisition channels before the next peak season.
The Challenge
The brand’s website, while visually appealing, had never been built with search visibility in mind. Product pages had thin, duplicated descriptions pulled from supplier copy, category pages lacked any optimized content, and site speed on mobile, where the majority of the brand’s traffic originated, was poor, with load times averaging over 5 seconds on product pages. The brand ranked nowhere for its core product categories and was invisible for the specific style-based searches shoppers actually use, like “oversized linen blazer Canada” or “sustainable wide leg trousers.”
Cart abandonment sat above 78 percent, well above healthy e-commerce benchmarks, and the checkout process required creating an account before completing a purchase, which was quietly costing the brand a meaningful share of otherwise-ready buyers. Paid social was still driving reasonable volume, but customer acquisition cost had climbed 60 percent year over year, and the founder wanted a second, more durable growth channel that would not be as exposed to rising ad costs on any single platform.
The Solution
Canada Create began with a full technical and content audit of the Shopify store, prioritizing site speed improvements first. The team compressed and lazy-loaded product imagery, removed unnecessary third-party scripts that were slowing page rendering, and restructured the site’s internal linking and navigation to help search engines understand the category hierarchy. Mobile page load times dropped from over 5 seconds to under 2 seconds on key product pages.
From there, Canada Create rewrote product and category page content at scale, combining unique, search-optimized descriptions with structured data markup so products could appear with rich results, including pricing and review stars, directly in search results. Keyword research identified a long list of underserved, high-intent style and fabric-based search terms that matched the brand’s actual inventory, and new landing pages were built around seasonal and trend-driven searches such as “fall capsule wardrobe Canada” and “linen dresses Toronto.”
On the conversion side, Canada Create ran a structured conversion rate optimization program, starting with removing the forced account creation step at checkout, simplifying the cart page, and adding urgency and trust elements like real-time stock counts and clearer shipping and return policy messaging near the add-to-cart button. A/B testing across product page layouts identified a version with larger imagery and customer review placement above the fold that outperformed the original by a wide margin.
Canada Create also restructured the brand’s Google Shopping and Search campaigns to work alongside the existing paid social strategy rather than compete with it, using the newly optimized product feed and landing pages to improve Quality Score and lower cost per click. Email flows were connected to on-site behavior so cart abandoners and browsers of specific categories received targeted, automated follow-up sequences.
Results
Within six months, the brand had a second reliable growth channel that outperformed expectations.
- Organic search traffic increased 172 percent, growing from around 9,400 to over 25,600 monthly sessions
- Organic search revenue increased 189 percent over the same period
- The brand achieved top 5 rankings for 34 target product and category keywords, up from just 3 at the start of the engagement
- Cart abandonment dropped from 78 percent to 61 percent following checkout and cart page improvements
- Overall site conversion rate improved from 1.4 percent to 2.3 percent
- Mobile page load speed improved by more than 60 percent
- Blended customer acquisition cost across channels dropped 24 percent as organic and improved paid performance reduced reliance on social ads alone
The brand’s founder has since expanded the product catalog and greenlit a second content and SEO push targeting the brand’s newly launched menswear line.
Timeline
The engagement ran over 6 months. Month 1 covered the technical audit and site speed fixes. Months 2 and 3 focused on product and category page rewrites, structured data implementation, and the start of conversion rate optimization testing. Months 4 and 5 introduced the restructured paid shopping campaigns and automated email flows. Month 6 focused on scaling content production around seasonal search trends and consolidating the gains across all channels.
Client Quote
“We’d always treated SEO as something for bigger retailers with bigger budgets. Canada Create showed us that wasn’t true at all. What impressed me most was how much they cared about the actual product and how our customers shop, not just rankings on a report. Our site is faster, our checkout finally makes sense, and organic search has become one of our best channels almost overnight.”
