Want to use gamification to build customer loyalty in WordPress? In this tutorial we'll teach you how to gain customer loyalty in online stores with gamification.

Enhancing customer loyalty has been one of the biggest challenges in our WordPress business journey. In a competitive digital landscape, loyalty is essential for long-term success. Creativity is key to keeping customers engaged and encouraging repeat visits.

Implementing gamification has transformed our approach. By offering points and rewards to our loyal customers, we’ve experienced a significant increase in engagement and conversions. This strategy effectively encourages customers to return to our site and explore our products.

In this article, we will explore how you can cultivate customer loyalty through gamification in WordPress.

Why Should You Foster Customer Loyalty Through Gamification?

Incorporating gamification into WordPress allows you to reward users for specific actions, such as writing product reviews, leaving comments, or making purchases.

When you offer rewards like discounts, points, free gift coupons, and other incentives, visitors feel appreciated. This approach not only fosters customer loyalty but also boosts sales and enhances conversions across any type of website.

Now, let’s explore various methods to enhance customer loyalty through gamification in WordPress. Use the quick links below to navigate directly to your preferred method:

  • Method 1: Implement a Gamified Customer Loyalty Program in Your WooCommerce Store
  • Step 2: Implement Milestone-Based Rewards in WooCommerce
  • Step 3: Enhance Customer Loyalty with Gamified Popups (Compatible with All WordPress Sites)

Step 1: Introduce a Gamified Customer Loyalty Program to Your WooCommerce Store

If you operate a WooCommerce store, implementing a loyalty rewards program is an excellent way to reward your most valued customers and encourage repeat business.

Loyalty programs are especially effective for businesses that foster long-term relationships with customers, unlike those that focus on one-time purchases. For instance, you might offer subscription boxes through WordPress or manage a membership site.

The simplest way to integrate a gamified customer loyalty program into WordPress is by utilizing the Advanced Coupons plugin. It is the top coupon code solution for WordPress, enabling you to create various coupon codes, discounts, and rewards.

To establish a loyalty program, you’ll also need the Advanced Coupons Loyalty Program plugin. For the best value, we suggest purchasing the ‘All-In-One’ bundle.

The first step is to install and activate both the Advanced Coupons and Loyalty Program plugins. For further instructions, refer to our guide on how to install a WordPress plugin.

After that, simply navigate to Coupons » Loyalty ProgramAccess your WordPress admin dashboard and navigate to the ‘License’ tab.

Enter your license key along with the email address you used to purchase Advanced Coupons. You can retrieve this information by logging into your account on the Advanced Coupons website.

Next, click on the ‘Settings’ tab. This will take you to a screen where you can create your loyalty program.

In the ‘Price to points earned ratio’ section, the Loyalty Program plugin allows customers to earn 1 point for every $1 spent.

To enhance the appeal of your WooCommerce loyalty program, consider offering customers additional reward points. For instance, you could provide 2 points for every $1 spent on your site.

The ‘Points to price redeemed ratio’ indicates how many points are required to earn a dollar. By default, customers receive $1 for every 10 points earned, but you can customize these values as desired.

You can personalize the name of your loyalty program by entering a new name in the ‘Points name’ field.

In our examples, we use ‘Awesome Points,’ but feel free to choose any name that suits your online store. You might opt for a name that aligns with your brand, similar to how Starbucks uses ‘Stars.’

After completing the previous steps, navigate to the ‘Points Earning’ tab and find the section labeled ‘Actions that earn points.’

In this section, you can determine how points are awarded. While many online stores only give points for purchases, consider rewarding other beneficial actions as well.

For instance, you could reward customers for writing a Google review, making a purchase, or completing their first order.

To set this up, scroll to the ‘Point Amounts’ section and toggle the switch for any action that should earn points for visitors.

Next, you can specify the number of points users will receive for each action.

In the example shown, customers earn 2 points for submitting a product review.

You can also motivate customers to increase their spending by offering points for orders that surpass a specific amount, which can help boost your average order value.

To implement this, activate the ‘Spending over a certain amount’ option and enter a value in the ‘Spending over a threshold’ field.

During peak shopping seasons, consider providing shoppers with additional incentives to purchase from your store. For example, you could offer extra points on Black Friday to keep customers from shopping elsewhere.

To grant additional points during a designated timeframe, activate the ‘Extra points during a period’ option.

Next, specify the date and time range in the ‘Extra points to earn during period’ section.

You can also indicate the number of points that customers will receive.

Then, navigate to the ‘Redemption & Expiry’ tab.

Here, you can define the minimum points required for customers to redeem, the duration of these points, and additional settings.

If you’re uncertain, the default settings are suitable for most online stores.

There are additional settings to explore, but this is sufficient to establish a loyalty program in WooCommerce. Once you’re satisfied with the setup, scroll to the bottom of the page and click the ‘Save changes’ button.

Now, WordPress will alert visitors each time they earn points on your website.

Method 2: Implement Milestone-Based Cart Rewards in WooCommerce

Another effective way to incorporate gamification into your store is by introducing a milestone-based reward system on the WooCommerce cart page.

This approach fosters customer loyalty while motivating them to make additional purchases.

The simplest method to implement gamified cart rewards in WooCommerce is by utilizing FunnelKit.

FunnelKit is an exceptional WooCommerce sales funnel plugin that features a stunning sliding side cart designed to enhance customer engagement through rewards.

You can incorporate three types of milestone-based rewards, including discounts, complimentary gifts, and free shipping options.

Multiple rewards can be applied to a single cart, allowing you to set spending thresholds for customers to unlock various rewards.

Additionally, you can create one-click upsells and cross-sell offers based on the items already in the customer’s cart. These enticing offers will appear in the side cart, ensuring they capture the shopper’s interest.

Method 3: Enhance Customer Loyalty with Gamified Popups (Compatible with All WordPress Sites)

You can also implement gamification on your WordPress site by rewarding loyal customers with a spin-to-win popup.

These popups are perfect for promoting discounts, exclusive offers, and other valuable incentives.

This approach does not require you to establish a formal loyalty program, making it an ideal solution for quickly and easily integrating gamification into your website.

Enhance your WordPress site with engaging spin-to-win and gamified popups using OptinMonster, the leading lead generation plugin trusted by over 1.2 million websites.

OptinMonster is compatible with any WordPress blog, website, or online store, making it a versatile tool to help you grow various types of online businesses.

With OptinMonster, you can expand your email list, generate more leads, convert website visitors into loyal members, and much more.

You can even establish a loyalty program using Advanced Coupons and promote it through a gamified OptinMonster popup.
