WPConsent Introduces Clarity Consent Mode, Global Privacy Controls, and Subdomain Cookie Sharing
The widely-used cookie consent management plugin, WPConsent, has released significant updates that simplify privacy compliance and enhance the user experience.
The plugin now includes support for Global Privacy Controls (GPC), a feature available in certain web browsers that enables visitors to automatically opt out of data sharing or selling by websites.
When a visitor with GPC enabled accesses your website, WPConsent will automatically implement their privacy preferences. This eliminates the need for them to interact with a cookie banner, enhancing their experience and ensuring compliance with regulations such as the CCPA.
Additionally, the new Shared Consent feature allows a user’s preferences to be applied across all of your subdomains. This means visitors won’t encounter repetitive cookie banners as they navigate different sections of your site, such as blog.yourwebsite.com and store.yourwebsite.com.
Another exciting addition is the ‘Clarity Consent Mode,’ which allows Microsoft Clarity to function in a restricted, cookieless environment until users provide their consent. This is crucial as Clarity will begin enforcing consent requirements on October 31, 2025, for the EEA, UK, and Switzerland.
Website owners can now tailor banners and messages according to the visitor’s location or region. For instance, you can display GDPR-specific language in Europe while using simpler notifications in other areas.
These features can be activated in WPConsent’s Advanced settings and location templates. The aim is to create a more seamless user experience with reduced compliance risks.
