Installing a Facebook Status Plugin in WordPress
The simplest method to embed your Facebook status feed in WordPress is by using the free Smash Balloon Social Post Feed plugin.

As you create new status updates, they will automatically appear on your site. This feature is ideal for keeping your website dynamic and engaging for returning visitors.
In this tutorial, we will utilize the free version of Smash Balloon, which enables you to embed Facebook statuses regardless of your budget.
Important Note:There is also a premium version of the Smash Balloon Facebook Feed plugin that allows you to embed various types of content. For instance, you can include a Facebook video in WordPress and display images and videos in a lightbox popup on your site.
The first step is to install and activate the Smash Balloon Social Post Feed plugin. For more information, refer to our beginner’s guide on how to install a WordPress plugin.
Next, connect Smash Balloon to your Facebook page or group by navigating to Facebook Feed » All Feeds. Click on ‘Add New’ to proceed.
Smash Balloon Pro allows you to embed Facebook albums in WordPress, create a Facebook calendar, display your complete social media timeline, and more.
The free version, however, only supports embedding your Facebook statuses. Click on ‘Timeline’ and then select ‘Next.’
Now, choose the page or group from which you want to retrieve Facebook statuses.
To begin, click on ‘Add New.’
On the following screen, decide whether you want to embed the feed from a Facebook group or a Facebook page.
Then, click on ‘Connect to Facebook.’
A popup will appear, allowing you to log in to your Facebook account and select the pages or groups for status updates.
Once you have completed this, click on ‘Next.’
Facebook will display all the information that Smash Balloon can access and the actions it can perform.
To limit Smash Balloon’s access to your Facebook account, simply toggle any of the switches from ‘Yes’ to ‘No.’ Keep in mind that this may impact the content you can embed on your WordPress blog or website.
Considering this, it’s advisable to keep all the switches turned on.
Once you are satisfied with your Facebook permissions, click on ‘Done.’
After a brief moment, you should receive a notification confirming that your WordPress site is connected to Facebook. Once confirmed, click the ‘OK’ button.
Smash Balloon will automatically redirect you back to the WordPress dashboard.
How to Embed Facebook Status Posts in Your WordPress Site
A popup will appear displaying the Facebook group or page you just added.
Simply select the radio button next to the social media account you wish to use, then click ‘Add.’
If you accidentally closed the popup, don’t worry. You can refresh the tab to reopen it.
After this, Smash Balloon will redirect you back to theFacebook Feed » All Feedspage automatically. As before, click the ‘Add New’ button, choose ‘Timeline,’ and then click ‘Next.’
Now, choose your Facebook page or group, and click ‘Next.’
Smash Balloon will then create a social media feed based on the Facebook page or group you selected.
This is a great starting point, but Smash Balloon offers numerous settings to personalize your embedded timeline.
How to Personalize Your Embedded Facebook Status Posts
To refine your timeline, navigate to theFacebook Feed » All Feedssection in your WordPress dashboard.
Here, locate the timeline feed you created and click the ‘Edit’ button next to it.
This will open the Smash Balloon feed editor, displaying a preview of your Facebook timeline within WordPress.
On the left side, you’ll find various settings to customize the appearance of the timeline on your site. Most of these options are intuitive, but we’ll briefly go over the key areas.
To begin, you can modify how the statuses are presented by selecting ‘Feed Layout.’
On this screen, you can toggle between list and masonry layouts, as well as adjust the feed height. As you make adjustments, the preview updates in real-time, allowing you to experiment with different settings to find the best look for your website.
You can see how your status feed appears on desktops, tablets, and smartphones using the buttons in the top-right corner.
Mobile devices often have smaller screens and limited processing capabilities, so if you’re not satisfied with the appearance of the feed, it’s advisable to display fewer statuses on tablets and smartphones.
To adjust this setting, simply enter a different number in the ‘Mobile’ field within the ‘Number of Posts’ section.
Experimenting with various layouts can help you design a Facebook status feed that looks appealing on all devices.
By default, the Smash Balloon feed displays fewer columns on smartphones and tablets compared to desktop computers, ensuring that your Facebook status fits well on smaller screens.
After reviewing the mobile version of your WordPress site, you might decide to reduce the number of columns displayed on smartphones and tablets.
To achieve this, just modify the numbers in the ‘Columns’ section.
Once you’re satisfied with the appearance of the feed, click on the ‘Customize’ link.
This will redirect you back to the main Smash Balloon editor, where you can continue exploring the next settings screen, which is ‘Color Scheme.’
By default, Smash Balloon adopts a color scheme that matches your WordPress theme, but you can also opt for a ‘Light’ or ‘Dark’ theme.
You can create a personalized color scheme by selecting ‘Custom’ and adjusting the text color, background color, and other settings in WordPress.
Smash Balloon automatically includes a header in your feed, displaying your Facebook profile picture along with the name of your group or page.
To modify this section, click on ‘Header’ in the left-hand menu.
Here, you can adjust the header size, hide your Facebook profile picture, change the background color, and more.
If you wish to remove the header completely, simply toggle off the ‘Enable’ option.
Next, customize the appearance of individual posts in your feed by selecting ‘Post Style’ from the left-hand menu.
Then, click on ‘Post Style’ again to access the customization options.
On this screen, you can choose between a standard layout and a boxed layout.
If you opt for ‘Boxed’, you can create a colored background for each Facebook post, add a box shadow, or adjust the border radius.
If you select ‘Regular’, you can modify the thickness and color of the line that separates your various social media posts.
In the image below, we have added a thicker line to the Facebook status feed.
You can personalize each part of the status by returning to the main settings screen.
Again, select ‘Post Style’ but this time opt for ‘Edit Individual Elements’ instead.
You will now see a list of all the various content types that Smash Balloon includes in each post, such as the date, post author, and event title.
To remove a specific piece of content from the feed, simply click to uncheck its box.
You can also customize the appearance of each content type by clicking on it.
For instance, in the following image, you can find settings to adjust the size and color of the author’s text.
By default, Smash Balloon does not include the Facebook ‘like’ button in your feed.
This button allows visitors to easily follow you on Facebook, so you might want to add it to your status feed by selecting the ‘Like Box’ settings.
After that, just click on the ‘Enable’ button to make it turn blue.
You can now adjust the settings to change the position of the link box and the type of content included, such as your Facebook cover photo and the total number of followers. You can also add a custom call to action.
Upgrading to Smash Balloon Premium unlocks additional features, including a lightbox option for embedding Facebook videos in your WordPress site. You can also implement a ‘Load More’ button, allowing visitors to browse through your complete Facebook event calendar, albums, photos, and other content.
As you are currently using the free version of Smash Balloon, simply click ‘Save’ to apply your changes.

How to Embed Facebook Status Posts in WordPress
You can integrate your Facebook status feed into WordPress via a block, widget, or shortcode.
If you have set up multiple feeds with Smash Balloon, you’ll need to obtain the embed code for the specific feed you wish to add using a block or widget.
To find this information, navigate to Facebook Feed »All Feeds and copy the text located under ‘Shortcode.’
In the next image, we will need to use custom-facebook-feed feed=1.
To embed your Facebook statuses in a WordPress page or post, we recommend using the ‘Custom Facebook Feed’ block in the content editor.
Begin by opening the page or post where you wish to embed your Facebook status feed. Click the ‘+’ icon to add a new block and type ‘Custom Facebook Feed’ to find the block.
Once the appropriate block appears, click on it to insert it into your post or page.
The block will initially display one of your Smash Balloon feeds. To select a different feed, locate the ‘Shortcode Settings’ in the right-hand menu.
You can now enter the custom-facebook-feed feed=1
The block will now display all the status updates from your Facebook page or group. Simply publish or update the page to make the feed visible to your audience.
Alternatively, you can add the feed to any widget-ready area, such as the sidebar, enabling visitors to view your latest Facebook updates throughout your entire website.
To do this, navigate to Appearance » Widgets in your WordPress dashboard and click the blue ‘+’ button.
Next, type ‘Custom Facebook Feed’ into the search bar to locate the correct widget.
You can then drag the widget to the desired area where you want your Facebook status updates to appear. By default, the widget will show one of the feeds you created using Smash Balloon.
To display a different feed, enter the feed code in the ‘Shortcode Settings’ box and click ‘Apply Changes.’
Now, click the ‘Update’ button to activate the widget.
