Effortlessly Embed Facebook Albums in WordPress: A Step-by-Step Guide

If you frequently use Facebook albums to showcase products, share customer testimonials, or engage with your community, displaying them on your WordPress website can significantly enhance your online presence.

This not only improves the visual appeal of your site but also acts as social proof, highlighting your brand’s active engagement. Additionally, it can drive traffic back to your Facebook page, allowing potential customers to learn more and connect with you.

Thanks to various WordPress plugins, embedding Facebook albums is a straightforward task, and CanadaCreate is here to walk you through the entire process.

In this article, we will guide you on how to seamlessly embed Facebook albums into your WordPress site.

Why Should You Embed a Facebook Album in WordPress?

There are numerous benefits to embedding a Facebook photo album on your WordPress website.

If you have a popular Facebook page where you regularly post photos, you may want your website visitors to see them as well. By embedding your Facebook album in WordPress, you can avoid the hassle of uploading the same photo to multiple platforms.

Moreover, embedding a Facebook album can enhance the visual appeal and overall user experience of your website. Visitors can easily browse through your embedded Facebook album without leaving your WordPress page.

Previously, WordPress allowed users to easily embed Facebook albums by simply copying and pasting the album URL, similar to how YouTube videos were embedded.

However, recent updates to the Facebook and Instagram APIs have removed the ability for WordPress to support oEmbed for these platforms.

Attempting to embed a Facebook album link now results in an error message.

Fortunately, you can restore Facebook and Instagram embedding in WordPress by using a dedicated plugin.

Here’s a simple guide on how to embed Facebook albums in WordPress. You can use the quick links below to navigate through each step:

  • Step 1: Install the Smash Balloon Custom Facebook Feed Plugin
  • Step 2: Connect Your Facebook Page or Group to Your WordPress Site
  • Step 3: Select a Template for Your Facebook Album Feed
  • Step 4: Personalize Your Embedded Facebook Albums
  • Step 5: Insert the Facebook Albums into Your WordPress Pages or Posts

Step 1: Install the Smash Balloon Custom Facebook Feed Plugin

The most effective method to embed Facebook albums in WordPress is by utilizing the Smash Balloon Custom Facebook Feed plugin.

It allows visitors to view your photos and images in detail without leaving your site, by opening them in a lightbox popup.

Important Note: Although there is a free version of Smash Balloon, this guide focuses on the Pro version, which includes the essential Facebook album embed feature.

The first step is to install and activate the Smash Balloon Custom Facebook Feed plugin. For detailed instructions, refer to our guide on installing a WordPress plugin.

Smash Balloon allows you to display posts from your photo albums, timelines, events, and more on your website.

To embed a specific Facebook album, you will need to purchase and install the Album extension by visitingFacebook Feed » Extensions.

Then, click ‘Next’ and Smash Balloon will retrieve the album.

Now, proceed to the next steps.

Step 3: Select a Facebook Feed Template for Your Albums

A popup will appear showing the group or page you just connected to your website. Select the radio button next to your source and click the ‘Add’ button.

If you accidentally closed the popup, don’t worry. You can refresh the tab to reopen it.

On the following screen, you can pick a template to serve as the foundation for your feed. All templates are fully customizable, allowing you to adjust the design according to how you want your Facebook albums to appear on your website.

We are using the ‘Default’ template, but feel free to choose any template that you prefer.

Once you’re finished, click the ‘Next’ button.

Smash Balloon will now create an album feed based on the source, theme, and template you selected. This is a great starting point, but you may want to adjust the appearance of the albums on your WordPress site.

Step 4: Personalize Your Embedded Facebook Albums

The Smash Balloon Custom Facebook Feed plugin offers numerous options for customizing the display of your albums. Therefore, it’s beneficial to explore the changes you can implement.

On the Facebook Feed » All FeedsOn your screen, locate your album feed and click the ‘Edit’ button, represented by a small pencil icon.

This will open the Smash Balloon feed editor, displaying a preview of your Facebook albums on the right side.

On the left side, you’ll find various settings to customize the appearance of these albums on your website. While most settings are straightforward, we will highlight some important options.

To begin, you can modify the album display by selecting ‘Feed Layout.’

In this section, you can choose from different layouts and adjust the feed height. You can also create a responsive slider by selecting the ‘Carousel’ layout.

As you make adjustments, the preview will update in real-time, allowing you to experiment with different settings to find the best look.

By default, the feed displays the same number of posts for both desktop computers and mobile devices like smartphones.

You can see how your albums will appear on desktop computers, tablets, and smartphones by using the row of buttons in the upper-right corner.

Websites viewed on mobile devices will generally appear smaller, so you might want to display fewer albums on tablets and smartphones.

Simply enter a different number in the ‘Mobile’ field under ‘Number of Posts.’

Experimenting with various layouts will help you design a visually appealing social media feed that works well on any device.

By default, the Facebook feed displays fewer columns on mobile devices compared to desktop, ensuring that all your albums and photos fit well on smaller screens.

If you’re not satisfied with the column layout on smartphones and tablets after reviewing the mobile version of your WordPress site, you can reduce the number of columns by adjusting the values in the ‘Columns’ section.

Once you’re pleased with your adjustments, click on the ‘Customize’ link.

This will return you to the main Smash Balloon editor, where you can proceed to the next settings screen, titled ‘Color Scheme.’

Smash Balloon defaults to a color scheme that matches your WordPress theme, but this screen allows you to choose between a ‘Light’ or ‘Dark’ theme.

You can also create a personalized color scheme by selecting ‘Custom’ and using the controls to modify the background color, text color, and more.

Smash Balloon automatically includes a header in your feed, featuring your Facebook profile picture and the name of your page or group. This provides additional context beyond just embedding your Facebook videos and photos in WordPress.

To customize the appearance of this section, select ‘Header’ from the left-hand menu.

On this screen, you can adjust the header’s size and color, choose to display or hide your Facebook profile picture, and more.

If you prefer to remove the header entirely, simply toggle off the ‘Enable’ option.

By default, Smash Balloon displays the title of each album. To hide the title, select ‘Posts’ from the main Smash Balloon editor menu.

Next, click on ‘Post Style.’

Here, you can hide the album titles by toggling off the ‘Show album title’ option.

This feature is helpful if the album titles detract from the photos or are not relevant when displayed on your website.

On this screen, you can also decide whether to display the number of photos in each album.

To show this number, simply toggle on the ‘Number of posts in album’ option.

Smash Balloon does not automatically include the Facebook ‘like’ button in your feed. To increase your Facebook followers, consider adding this button by selecting ‘Like Box’ from the left-hand menu in the editor.

Next, simply click the ‘Enable’ button until it turns blue.

By default, Smash Balloon places the ‘like’ button below your embedded photo albums, but you can adjust this by opening the ‘Position’ dropdown and selecting ‘Top.’

On this screen, you can customize the appearance of the ‘like’ section, including adding a personalized call to action and displaying your follower count on Facebook.

Once you are satisfied with the appearance of the ‘like’ button, you can proceed to the ‘Load More Button’ settings.

The Load More button encourages visitors to explore additional content in your Facebook feed, and Smash Balloon includes it in your embedded photo albums by default.

To make the Load More button more prominent, you can customize its background color, text color, and label.

Alternatively, you can completely remove the button by toggling the ‘Enable’ option off.

By default, Smash Balloon allows visitors to browse your Facebook albums without leaving your website.

Users can easily click on any album to view it in a lightbox, as illustrated in the image below.

Visitors can navigate through the album using the arrows provided.

If they wish to like a photo, leave a comment, or share the image with their Facebook friends, they can click on the ‘View on Facebook’ link.

There are several ways to customize the default lightbox settings.

To explore your customization options, click on ‘Lightbox’ in the left-hand menu.

Here, you can modify the text color, link colors, and background colors of the lightbox.

The lightbox feature enhances user interaction with your photos and allows visitors to browse your albums without needing to visit your Facebook page.

If you want to drive more traffic to your Facebook page, you can disable the lightbox feature by toggling the ‘Enable’ option off.

Now, when a visitor clicks on an album, they will be redirected to your Facebook page in a new tab.

Once you are satisfied with the appearance of your photo albums, remember to click ‘Save’ to apply your changes.

You are now ready to incorporate these albums into your WordPress website.

Step 5: Integrate the Facebook Albums into Your WordPress Pages or Posts

To embed your Facebook albums in a WordPress page or post, use the Facebook Feed block.

Start by opening the page or post where you wish to embed your albums. Click the ‘+’ icon to add a new block and type ‘Facebook Feed’ in the search bar.

When the appropriate block appears, click on it to add it to your page or post.

In the block settings, choose the Facebook album feed you created previously.

The Facebook feed you selected should now be visible on your page or post.

You can also use the settings panel on the left to switch between different feeds. Once you are satisfied with the appearance of the feed, click ‘Update’ or ‘Publish’ if it’s a new post or page.

Alternatively, you can add the feed to any widget-ready area, such as the sidebar, allowing visitors to view your Facebook photos from any part of your site.

To do this, navigate to Appearance » Widgets in your WordPress dashboard and click the blue ‘+’ button.

Next, locate the Facebook Feed widget. Both available options will function in the same manner.

Simply drag the widget to the desired area and select the Facebook album feed you created.

The widget will display one of the feeds you created with Smash Balloon.

Here’s a preview of the widget:

You can now click the ‘Update’ button to activate the widget. For further details, please refer to our comprehensive guide on adding and using widgets in WordPress.

You can easily embed your albums on any page, post, or widget-ready area using a shortcode.

Simply navigate to Facebook Feed »All Feeds and copy the code from the ‘Shortcode’ column. You can then paste this shortcode into any widget-ready section of your site.

For additional information, please consult our in-depth guide on how to add a shortcode in WordPress.

Bonus Tip: Incorporate More Social Media Feeds into WordPress

If you want to create a tailored Facebook feed in WordPress, the Smash Balloon Facebook Feed plugin is an excellent option.

However, many websites manage multiple social media accounts, including a YouTube channel, Twitter profile, and Instagram account. If you produce unique content for each platform, it’s beneficial to showcase this content on your site.

If you post images on Instagram, you can create a custom Instagram photo feed and add it to any page, post, or widget-ready area. You can even include shoppable Instagram images in WordPress.

Videos effectively engage visitors and encourage them to stay on your website longer.

Consider showcasing the latest videos from your YouTube channel to enhance your content.
