Why Should You Automatically Share WordPress Posts on Facebook?

There are numerous ways to connect with your audience, such as creating an email list and sending regular newsletters. However, the vast user base of social media platforms like Facebook cannot be overlooked.

As the leading social media platform, Facebook can serve as a significant source of traffic for your WordPress site.

To cultivate a loyal following, it’s essential to engage with your Facebook audience by responding to comments, sharing relevant content, and providing regular updates.

Managing social media can be daunting, which is why we’ve created a comprehensive social media cheat sheet for WordPress to help you get started. You can also streamline your efforts by automating your social media activities.

Let’s explore how to automatically share your new WordPress posts on Facebook.

Automatically Share WordPress Posts on Facebook with Uncanny Automator

The most effective way to share your WordPress posts on Facebook is by using Uncanny Automator. This leading WordPress automation plugin allows you to create robust workflows that save you time, enhance user experience, and help grow your business.

Additionally, it seamlessly integrates with over 185 plugins, apps, and services, including Google Drive, Slack, Asana, Facebook, and many more.

In this guide, we will focus on the Pro version of Uncanny Automator.

Important Note:There is also a free version of the Uncanny Automator plugin that provides you with 1,000 credits for Facebook integration, allowing you to test the plugin before purchasing. After using those credits, you will need to upgrade to a Pro account or higher to continue automatic posting to Facebook.

The process will be largely similar if you are using the free version of the plugin.

First, you need to install and activate the Uncanny Automator plugin. For detailed instructions, refer to our step-by-step guide on installing a WordPress plugin.

After activating the plugin, you will be prompted to install the free version of Uncanny Automator, which serves as the foundation for the Pro version.

Once activated, navigate to the Automator » Settings page and input your license key in the ‘Uncanny Automator Pro license key’ field.

You can locate this information in your account on the Uncanny Automator website.

After entering the key, click on the ‘Activate license’ button.

Linking Your Facebook Page to Uncanny Automator

To set up an automated workflow for Facebook, you first need to connect your Facebook page to Uncanny Automator.

To establish this connection, go to the Automator » App Integrations page and select the ‘Facebook Pages’ tab from the left sidebar.

Here, click on ‘Connect Facebook account.’

After clicking this button, a popup will appear for you to log into your Facebook account. If you have two-factor authentication enabled, you will need to complete that verification to connect Facebook with Uncanny Automator.

Once logged in, Facebook will request permission for Uncanny Automator to access your name and profile picture. If you agree, click the ‘Continue as’ button.

You will be prompted to allow Uncanny Automator to post on your Facebook account.

Feel free to click on ‘Continue’ to proceed.

After that, you will return to the Uncanny Automator dashboard.

You will now see all the Facebook pages connected to your account, which Uncanny Automator can post to automatically.

Automatically Sharing Your WordPress Posts on Facebook with Uncanny Automator

You are now set to create a recipe that will automatically share a Facebook status each time you publish a new blog post on WordPress.

Simply navigate to Automator » Add New in your WordPress dashboard.

You can choose to create a recipe for ‘Logged-in users’ or for ‘Everyone.’ For this recipe, select ‘Logged-in users’ and click the ‘Confirm’ button.

Next, you can name your recipe by entering it in the ‘Title’ field.

This is for your reference, so feel free to use any name you prefer.

Then, you need to specify the condition that will trigger the action.

To share on Facebook whenever a new WordPress blog post is published, click on ‘WordPress’ under ‘Select an integration.’

You will now see all the available triggers for your WordPress website.

Search for ‘publish’ and select the trigger labeled ‘A user publishes a type of post with a taxonomy term in a taxonomy.’

In this case, we only want to update Facebook when a post is published, not a page. Therefore, open the ‘Post Type’ dropdown and choose ‘Post.’

You can specify whether to share posts from a specific category or tag by adjusting the ‘Taxonomy’ settings.

Remember to click ‘Save’ to apply your changes.

Next, you need to select the action that Uncanny Automator will execute each time you publish a post. Begin by clicking the ‘Add action’ button.

Uncanny Automator will display all available integrations. For instance, there is an integration that allows you to automatically tweet when you publish a new post on WordPress.

Since we want to share on Facebook, click the ‘Facebook Pages’ button.

You will now see a list of various Facebook actions.

If your posts include a featured image, it’s advisable to choose ‘Publish a post with an image.’ If you prefer not to include an image in your Facebook posts, select ‘Publish a post to a Facebook page’ instead.

If you manage multiple Facebook pages, choose the one you wish to post to from the ‘Facebook Page’ dropdown menu.

Next, craft your desired status by entering it into the ‘Message’ box.

While composing the status, remember to include the post title and URL using tokens. When Uncanny Automator shares your status, it will automatically replace these tokens with the actual details from the post.

To insert a token, click the ‘*’ button.

Then, click the arrow next to ‘A user publishes a Post…’

This will display all the available tokens for the post.

You can include any token in your Facebook status.

Typically, you will want to choose ‘Post Title’ and ‘Post URL’ so that readers can access the blog post.

If you selected ‘Publish a post with an image’ as your action, you’ll need to inform Uncanny Automator where to find the image.

Locate the ‘Image URL or Media library ID’ field and click its ‘*’ button.

Then, expand the ‘A user publishes a post…’ trigger.

Here, select ‘Post featured image URL.’

Once you are satisfied with the action setup, don’t forget to click ‘Save.’

At this stage, consider adding a delay to prevent Uncanny Automator from posting to Facebook immediately after you publish your blog.

To set this up, hover over the ‘Publish a post to…’ action and click on ‘Delay’ when it appears.

You can now decide whether to trigger the Uncanny Automator action after a delay or at a specific date and time.

This feature allows you to share your posts on Facebook when your audience is most active online.

With the trigger and action configured, it’s time to publish your recipe.

To do this, toggle the ‘Draft’ switch to ‘Live’.

Once the recipe is live, Uncanny Automator will automatically post a new Facebook status each time you publish a blog post.

Bonus: Create a Custom Facebook Feed in WordPress

In addition to sharing posts on Facebook directly from WordPress, you can also display your entire Facebook feed on your website. This feature allows visitors to view your Facebook updates without leaving your site, enhancing their overall experience.

This integration can also motivate users to visit your Facebook page, potentially increasing your follower count.

To display your Facebook feed, you need to install and activate the Smash Balloon Facebook Feed plugin. After activation, navigate to the Facebook Feed » All Feeds and click on ‘Add New.’

This will direct you to a new screen where you should select ‘Timeline’ as the feed type and then click the ‘Next’ button.

Next, you will need to link your Facebook account with Smash Balloon. For detailed instructions, refer to our tutorial on embedding a Facebook group feed in WordPress.

Once connected, you can easily personalize your Facebook feed using Smash Balloon’s visual editor. Here, you can modify the background color, choose a layout, add various buttons, and much more.

After making your changes, click the ‘Save’ button at the top to apply your settings.

Now, open the block editor and add the ‘Facebook Feed’ block from the menu. Then, select the Facebook feed you just created from the dropdown menu within the block.

To save your settings, simply click the ‘Update’ or ‘Publish’ button. For additional guidance, check out our tutorial on creating a custom Facebook feed in WordPress.
