create-a-live-sale-notification-for-woocommerce-og

Want to display WooCommerce live sales notifications? Let users know someone just made a purchase on your online store by following this step-by-step guide.

Live sale notifications inform your visitors about ongoing sales in real-time on your online store. This effective form of social proof can significantly boost your overall sales.

Over the years, we have effectively utilized live sale notifications while selling software. This approach has helped us demonstrate our brand’s credibility and inspire visitors to become loyal customers.

Our experience has provided us with valuable insights into how this feature can be leveraged to achieve maximum results.

In this article, we will guide you through the process of creating a live sale notification for WooCommerce.

Why Should You Use Live Sale Notifications on WooCommerce?

Implementing live sale notifications in WooCommerce fosters trust and urgency by showing potential customers that others are actively purchasing from your store. This creates social proof, gives your shop a bustling atmosphere, and can motivate hesitant shoppers to finalize their purchases before missing out.

Customers are more inclined to make a purchase when they see that others have bought the same product or service and had positive experiences.

This is why savvy WooCommerce store owners incorporate social proof into their marketing strategies. You could include reviews and testimonials or showcase the number of Facebook followers your store has.

Displaying live sale notifications is an effective strategy that creates a sense of urgency among your online store visitors, encouraging them to make a purchase.

Now, let’s explore the process of setting up live sale notifications in your WooCommerce store.

We will cover the following topics:

  • Step 1: Install the TrustPulse Plugin
  • Step 2: Create a Live Sale Campaign in WooCommerce
  • Step 3: Select the Display Location for the Live Sales Notification
  • Step 4: Publish Your WooCommerce Live Sales Notification
  • Bonus: Generate Coupons for Your WooCommerce Store
  • Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Let’s begin the process.

Step 1: Install the TrustPulse Plugin

First, you need to install the FOMO & Social Proof Notifications plugin by TrustPulse. For detailed instructions, refer to our step-by-step guide on installing a WordPress plugin.

TrustPulse is a robust social proof plugin that showcases recent customer activities on your website, helping to build trust, enhance conversions, and drive sales.

Here’s why we recommend using TrustPulse for live sales notifications:

  • It integrates seamlessly with WooCommerce and other eCommerce platforms like Shopify.
  • This plugin features an intuitive visual builder that helps you create effective FOMO popups designed to convert visitors into customers.
  • You can display more than just recent sales; include email signups and user registrations as well.
  • ‘On-fire’ campaigns showcase the number of people who purchased a specific product within a defined time frame.
  • Clickable popups are designed to enhance sales, upsells, and cross-sells.
  • Utilize smart targeting features to display popups at the optimal time and location.

We have extensively tested the tool in our demo environment and found it to be very user-friendly. For more insights about our experience, check out our comprehensive TrustPulse review.

Important:There is a premium version of TrustPulse available that includes advanced features like analytics notifications, priority support, and sub-accounts.

For this tutorial, we will use the free version of the plugin, as it provides all the essential features needed to set up basic live sale notifications.

Once activated, you will be directed to the TrustPulse section in your WordPress admin dashboard. Here, you can either create a free account or link your existing TrustPulse account if you already have one.

Important:TrustPulse requires a credit or debit card for the free account to verify your identity and facilitate future upgrades if you decide to switch plans. You won’t incur any charges while using the free plan.

After signing up for TrustPulse, you’ll need to provide your website information. Enter the name of your WordPress site along with its URL, and then click the green ‘Save Site’ button to proceed.

Step 2: Set Up a Live Sale Campaign for WooCommerce

With your WooCommerce site now added to TrustPulse, the next step is to create a campaign.

Click the ‘Create Campaign’ button located at the top right corner of the screen.

Start by naming your campaign. We’ll name it ‘Live Sale Notification.’

If you have multiple websites linked to TrustPulse, choose the appropriate online store from the drop-down menu.

Next, scroll down to the ‘Select Your Campaign Type’ section and choose the ‘Recent Activity’ option.

This option will generate notifications for purchases, registrations, and signups on your online store.

Finally, click the ‘Next Step’ button at the bottom right corner of the screen to continue.

On the following screen, you can personalize the design and look of your live sale notification.

For this tutorial, we will use the default settings, but you are welcome to modify them to fit your online store’s style.

These settings include the language used, how you address your visitors, the link for the notification click-through, the size and placement of the notification, and much more.

Additionally, you can access the advanced settings to customize the background color, border, and drop shadow, ensuring your live sales notifications align with your website’s branding.

Once you have completed customizing the notification, click the ‘Next Step’ button.

You will now be prompted to choose where TrustPulse will gather the information for the live sale notifications. For this tutorial, we will select ‘WooCommerce Orders.’

Next, scroll down to the section titled ‘WooCommerce Integration for [website name].’

Click on ‘Connect TrustPulse to [website name]’ to get started.

A new tab will open, requesting your permission to connect TrustPulse with WooCommerce.

Click the ‘Approve’ button to proceed.

You will be redirected back to the TrustPulse website to proceed with setting up your notifications.

Next, click on the ‘Create new webhooks’ button.

TrustPulse will generate new webhooks in your WooCommerce plugin. These function as automatic notifications that inform TrustPulse immediately when a new sale occurs in your store.

Now, let’s customize the notification message for your WooCommerce orders. In the Message Text field, you can modify the default text to something like ‘just purchased {{product_name}}!’

The {{product_name}} merge tag will automatically be replaced with the name of the product that the customer just bought, making the message more personalized and engaging.

You can also decide whether to capture the first product ordered, the most expensive item, or simply a random order.

Another option you can enable is to replace the notification image with the product image if it’s available, and to link the notification to the product page.

We recommend enabling both options. Displaying the product image allows users to see exactly what was purchased, and linking to the product page encourages users to visit it right after seeing the notification.

You can optionally integrate your notifications with Google Analytics by adding your Google Analytics ID, provided you have already set up WooCommerce conversion tracking.

If you’re ready, click ‘Next Step.’

Step 3: Select the Display Location for Live Sales Notifications

On the next page, you will choose how to display your notifications. The first question is, ‘Where would you like your notifications to appear?’

If you prefer to have live sale notifications visible across your entire site, select the default option ‘Display on any page.’

Alternatively, if you want to restrict live sale notifications to specific pages or products, you can opt to display them on designated URLs. You can also configure it so that your FOMO notifications appear only on URLs that contain certain text or match a specific pattern.

Next, scroll down to the ‘Notification Settings’ section. Here, you can set the delay for your notifications and the duration for which they will be displayed.

You can also choose whether to display them on mobile devices and if they should loop.

In this guide, we will stick with the default settings, but feel free to make any adjustments. Once you’re done, click the ‘Next Step’ button. You’re almost there!

Step 4: Publish Your WooCommerce Live Sales Notification

The final step is to publish your live sale notification. On this last page, you will connect TrustPulse to your website using an embed code.

First, copy the code provided on this page.

The easiest and safest method to add this code to WordPress is by using the free WPCode plugin.

This plugin allows you to add custom code snippets without editing your theme files, which helps prevent errors.

You will need to install and activate the WPCode plugin. For more information, refer to our guide on installing a WordPress plugin.

Note:While you can use WPCode’s free plan for this tutorial, upgrading to the paid version will provide you with advanced features such as a cloud library of code snippets, smart conditional logic, block snippets, and more.

Once activated, navigate toCode Snippets » + Add Snippetfrom your WordPress dashboard. Here, locate the ‘Add Your Custom Code (New Snippet)’ option and click the ‘Use snippet’ button.

Next, select ‘HTML Snippet’ as the code type.

Then, give your snippet a title, such as ‘TrustPulse Embed Code.’

This identifier helps you easily find the snippet later if you wish to edit, disable, or remove it.

Next, paste the previously copied code into the ‘Code Preview’ box.

Now, navigate to the ‘Insertion’ section. Ensure the ‘Insert Method’ is set to ‘Auto Insert’ and the ‘Location’ is set to ‘Site Wide Footer.’

This will ensure the code is added to every page of your website.

Finally, switch the toggle at the top from ‘Inactive’ to ‘Active’ and click the ‘Save Snippet’ button.

With the code in place, return to the TrustPulse website. Click the green ‘Check Now’ button to confirm the connection.

Once TrustPulse verifies that the connection is successful, click the ‘Launch your TrustPulse campaign’ button to make it live.

Note:Sometimes, establishing the connection to your site may take a few minutes. You can check if your site is connected by clicking the green ‘Check Now’ button.

Congratulations! Your customers can now see live notifications when other customers make purchases from your store. If you want to adjust any settings for the campaign, you can do so at any time.

Bonus: Create Discount Coupons for Your WooCommerce Store

In addition to live sale notifications, offering discount coupons is another effective strategy to boost sales in your store. This approach can help you clear out inventory, encourage repeat purchases, and attract new customers.

You can create various types of coupons, including BOGO (Buy One Get One) offers, URL coupons, scheduled discounts, gift coupons, and more.

To implement this, you will need the Advanced Coupons plugin. It is the top WordPress coupon plugin that enables you to create a wide range of coupons, rewards, and discounts in just a few minutes.

Additionally, you can provide free shipping, set expiration dates for coupons, apply usage restrictions, generate unique coupon codes, and track coupon history using this tool.
