check-if-website-seo-optimized-2-ways-opengraph

Do you want to check if your website is SEO optimized? You'll learn how to check and improve your WordPress SEO to get more traffic for your website.

It can be disheartening to invest so much effort into creating valuable content, only to find that your website seems invisible on Google. We experienced the same frustration when we first launched our blog.

We quickly discovered that the key to visibility wasn’t solely about writing quality content, but also ensuring that search engines can easily locate and comprehend our pages. This essential process is known as search engine optimization, or SEO.

At CanadaCreate, we utilize tools like All in One SEO to monitor our website’s performance, and we’ve found that you don’t need to be a tech expert to achieve this. The best part is that you can begin optimizing your site without costly tools or extensive technical expertise.

In this guide, we will introduce you to straightforward, beginner-friendly techniques that we use to assess whether a website is effectively optimized.

Why Is It Important to Check Your Website’s SEO Optimization?

At CanadaCreate, we’ve realized that optimizing your website for search engines goes beyond technical aspects. It involves making your content easily accessible to those who need it the most.

By checking your website’s SEO optimization, you can uncover opportunities for improvement. This can result in increased traffic from search engines and enhanced visibility.

Search engines are a primary source of traffic for websites, making SEO optimization essential for your WordPress business site.

SEO can be filled with complex terminology and processes, which may feel daunting initially. However, with the right tools, you can streamline the process and achieve significant results.

Fortunately, there are numerous SEO tools available that can assess your site’s optimization. These tools identify areas for improvement and provide guidance on enhancing your site’s SEO.

In this guide, we will discuss two effective and user-friendly methods. The first involves using a plugin to evaluate your site’s health directly within WordPress, while the second utilizes an online tool for a comprehensive analysis of your rankings and competitors.

  1. Utilize AIOSEO to Assess and Enhance Your WordPress SEO
  2. Leverage Semrush for In-Depth WordPress SEO Insights
  3. Instructional Video
  4. Common Questions About Evaluating Your Website’s SEO
  5. Extra Resources to Enhance Your Website’s SEO

Step 1: Utilize AIOSEO to Assess and Enhance Your WordPress SEO

All in One SEO is the leading WordPress SEO plugin, trusted by over 3 million website owners. It allows you to effortlessly boost your search engine rankings and optimize your site without needing extensive SEO knowledge.

Start by installing and activating the plugin. For detailed instructions, refer to our comprehensive guide on how to install a WordPress plugin.

Important:A free version of AIOSEO is available, but we recommend using the pro version for enhanced SEO optimization features.

Once activated, you will see a new menu item labeled ‘All in One SEO’. Click on it to proceed. All in One SEO » Dashboard, which will direct you to the main settings panel.

Next, click the ‘Launch the Setup Wizard’ button.

This will guide you through the setup process for the plugin on your website.

For further information, check out our guide on how to properly set up All in One SEO for WordPress.

After setting up the plugin, go to All in One SEO » SEO Analysis.

The ‘SEO Audit Checklist’ tab will provide a detailed overview of your overall SEO score.

Below that, you will find the ‘Complete SEO Checklist’.

Consider this as your guide for effectively optimizing your WordPress website.

Address the ‘Critical Issues’ first, as they will significantly influence your SEO score.

Click the arrow next to the SEO issue to reveal a dropdown box that details the problem and provides guidance on how to resolve it.

By clicking the blue ‘Edit Your Page’ button, you will be directed to the specific page where you need to implement changes.

Once you have made the necessary changes, return to the ‘SEO Analysis’ page and click the ‘Refresh Results’ button.

This action will refresh your results and showcase the positive SEO enhancements you have implemented.

You will notice that the red ‘Critical Issue’ has now been updated to a green ‘Checkbox’.

Next, repeat the same process for any remaining ‘Critical Issues’ identified by the plugin and make the ‘Recommended Improvements’ if any suggestions are provided.

Evaluate Your SEO Performance Compared to Competitors

An additional valuable feature is the competitor analysis tool, which reveals how effectively your competitors have optimized their websites.

To access this feature, navigate to All in One SEO » SEO Analysis and select the ‘Analyze Competitor Site’ option.

Simply input the competitor’s URL into the provided box and click ‘Analyze’.

The results you receive for your competitors will be comparable to the SEO analysis results for your own website.

By understanding what your competitors are doing well and where they fall short, you can effectively surpass them in search engine rankings.

Enhance the SEO of Your Individual Pages with TruSEO

After enhancing your website’s overall technical performance, often referred to as ‘onsite SEO’, the next step is to optimize each of your posts and pages using the TruSEO analysis tool.

To begin, open the post or page you wish to optimize and scroll to the bottom of the content editor to find the SEO settings section.

Start by optimizing your ‘Post Title’ and ‘Meta Description’, as these elements are what users will see in search results.

Utilize the built-in headline analyzer to enhance your click-through rates and attract more visitors.

Next, input your ‘Focus Keyphrase’ into the designated box.

This keyphrase represents the term you want your post or page to rank for in search results.

Once you enter the keyphrase, the plugin will evaluate your content and provide suggestions for improvement.

You can also add several keywords in the ‘Additional Keyphrases’ section.

This approach is effective for targeting closely related search terms, which can increase your website traffic. For instance, if your main keyword is ‘best dog food’, you might consider additional keywords like ‘healthy dog food brands’ and ‘top-rated puppy food’.

Following this, you will receive a comprehensive ‘Page Analysis’ that evaluates how well your page is optimized for SEO.

The ‘Basic SEO’ tab provides insights into how effectively your content meets standard SEO practices.

The ‘Title’ tab assesses the optimization of your title for search engines.

Click on this tab to evaluate the performance of your title.

Next, you will find the ‘Readability’ tab.

This section offers a thorough analysis of how easy your content is to read, along with suggestions for improvement and highlights of your strengths.

Once you have made the necessary adjustments to enhance your content, remember to click ‘Update’ or ‘Publish’.

You will also see your TruSEO score in the upper right corner of the page. A higher score indicates better optimization for search engines.

Explore Search Insights and Monitor Keywords Within WordPress.

Once your WordPress site is optimized for SEO, it’s important to evaluate the effectiveness of your SEO strategy.

AIOSEO has introduced a new Search Statistics addon that allows you to easily access SEO metrics, monitor your keywords, identify your best-performing content, and more, all directly from your WordPress dashboard.

To get started, connect the Search Statistics addon with Google Search Console, then navigate to ‘Search Statistics’ under the AIOSEO menu in your WordPress admin dashboard.

The Search Statistics dashboard provides valuable insights such as impressions, total clicks, average click-through rate, and the average position of all your content for the specified date range.

You can set straightforward SEO objectives, like getting 1-3 articles into the Top 10, and monitor your progress with user-friendly reports.

Additionally, you can discover your top-performing keywords, which can inspire new content ideas.

The tool highlights your ‘top winning’ and ‘top losing’ keywords, showcasing those that have experienced the most significant changes in search rankings.

With this data, you can refine your SEO strategy to recover your underperforming keywords and ensure that your successful content maintains its high rankings.

Keep in mind that SEO is a long-term strategy. After implementing these changes, it may take some time for search engines like Google to reassess your website. Continue producing quality content and monitoring your site’s performance, and your hard work will yield results.

Step 2: Utilize Semrush for In-Depth WordPress SEO Insights

Semrush is among the leading SEO tools available, renowned for its exceptional keyword research capabilities.

This is the tool we rely on at CanadaCreate. While plugins like AIOSEO are excellent for managing SEO directly within your WordPress dashboard, Semrush provides valuable insights into your competitors and keyword rankings across the internet. Combining these tools offers a comprehensive SEO toolkit.

With Semrush, you can gain detailed insights into the effectiveness of your SEO strategy.

To get started, visit the Semrush website and click on ‘Sign Up’ to create your account.

You can create a free account that provides limited access to website SEO data. To unlock all features, you’ll need to subscribe to a paid Semrush plan, which is definitely worthwhile.

Next, you will need to enter your email address, password, and phone number.

You will then be directed to your SEO Dashboard, where you can begin assessing the optimization of your WordPress site.

The first tool we will utilize is the ‘Site Audit’ feature, which provides a comprehensive analysis of any SEO issues present on your website or WordPress blog.

Select ‘Site Audit’ from the On Page & Tech SEO menu, enter your website’s domain name, and click ‘Start Audit’.

The report will generate automatically.

Once completed, you will receive a detailed summary of any SEO issues affecting your site.

Scroll down to the ‘Top Issues’ section to view the primary problems identified on your website.

You can expand any of these categories to see all the pages that are experiencing that particular issue.

For instance, this website has 2 broken external links.

If you’re unsure about the issue or how to resolve it, click on the ‘Why and how to fix it’ link.

This will open a popup that provides an in-depth explanation of the issue.

It’s crucial to address all ‘Errors’ and ‘Warnings’ identified on your site. Resolving these issues will significantly enhance your SEO.

Discover Your Backlinks and Gain Advanced Insights into Your Website Analytics

In addition to identifying and resolving technical SEO issues, Semrush is an excellent tool for analyzing backlinks.

To access this feature, navigate to ‘Backlink Analytics’ on your SEMRush dashboard, enter your website’s URL, and click ‘Check it’.

This will provide you with extensive information about your domain and its backlinks.

Backlinks can be thought of as endorsements from other websites. Generally, the more endorsements you receive from reputable and relevant sites, the more credible your website appears to search engines, which can improve your rankings.

By clicking on the ‘Backlinks’ menu option, you will see a comprehensive overview of the domains that link to your site.

This information can be valuable as it helps you identify potential problems, such as links from low-quality sources.

For example, you can check how many other sites a page linking to you is also linking to. If a page has minimal content but numerous outgoing links, it may be a low-quality or spammy site that could negatively impact your SEO.

Monitor Your Traffic and Keyword Rankings Over Time

Another highly beneficial tool is the keyword rank tracking feature, which will inform you if your SEO optimization efforts are driving more traffic to your site.

Go to the ‘Organic Research‘ section within the Competitive Research area of your SEMrush dashboard.

Enter your website’s domain name and click on ‘Search’.

This page will provide you with comprehensive insights into your website’s performance.

Click on the ‘Positions’ tab to see which keywords are driving the most traffic to your site.

These keywords are crucial for your website’s success.

While enhancing your WordPress SEO, pay close attention to the ‘Position Changes’ tab.

This section will show you the fluctuations in organic search results. As you improve your website, you should notice an increase in rankings for specific keywords and a boost in traffic.

Another valuable tool from Semrush is the SEO Writing Assistant.

This tool assists you in creating SEO-friendly content, formatting your articles, adopting a conversational style, and more.

For further information, check out our guide on utilizing the SEO Writing Assistant in WordPress to enhance your SEO.

Additionally, Semrush integrates smoothly with AIOSEO, allowing you to discover more related keyphrases directly within WordPress.

Just click the ‘Get Additional Keyphrases’ button in the AIOSEO settings section of your post or page.

In the pop-up window, you will be asked to log in to your Semrush account. After signing in, you will have access to a list of additional keywords, including their search volume and trends. You can easily add any of these keyphrases to your content with just one click.

Frequently Asked Questions About Assessing Your Website’s SEO

We frequently receive inquiries about the most effective methods to evaluate and enhance website SEO. Below are answers to some of the most common questions we get.

1. What constitutes a good SEO score?

Most SEO tools offer a score that helps you quickly assess your site’s performance. While this score can vary, a rating above 80 out of 100 in tools like All in One SEO is generally regarded as good.

However, it’s more crucial to concentrate on resolving the specific ‘Critical Issues’ identified by the tool rather than merely aiming for a perfect score.

Consider your score as a useful indicator, not a definitive assessment. Each issue you resolve brings you closer to improved rankings! 👍

2. Is it possible to check my website’s SEO for free?

Yes, you can definitely do this. Many top SEO tools, such as All in One SEO and Semrush, provide free versions or limited free trials. These options are ideal for conducting a basic audit to identify and resolve the most common SEO issues on your website at no cost.

3. How frequently should I conduct an SEO audit on my website?

It’s advisable to perform a comprehensive site audit at least once every three months to identify any widespread technical problems. For specific posts and pages, you should review the on-page SEO every time you publish new content or make significant updates to existing articles to ensure they are well-optimized.

4. What key factors should I focus on for SEO?

The key aspects to review include on-page elements such as page titles, meta descriptions, and keyword usage.

Additionally, check for technical issues like broken links, site speed, and the presence of an XML sitemap. Lastly, ensure that your content is easy for your visitors to read.
